Final Destination: Bloodlines has earned the best reviews in the franchise’s history—along with a record-breaking box office debut. Despite this recent high point, the series has seen its share of ups and downs over the past three decades. When it comes to picking the worst installment, producer Craig Perry doesn’t hesitate to call out The Final Destination.

In an excerpt from Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie by Clark Collis (via Entertainment Weekly), Perry revealed that he originally believed The Final Destination would mark the end of the series. Ironically, it became the highest-grossing installment at the time—a title Bloodlines is poised to surpass—and ultimately paved the way for yet another sequel.

I figured that we’re done,” Perry said. “Then, lo and behold, opening weekend, we’re like, ‘Uh, okay, here we go.’ I don’t think the fourth one is good at all, actually it sucks. But it was successful enough to give us a chance to redeem ourselves with 5.

Most will agree with Perry; The Final Destination was a muddled mess of 3D kills and unmemorable characters, but we can be thankful that it didn’t kill the franchise.

The newest chapter in New Line Cinema’s bloody successful franchise takes audiences back to the very beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice,” reads the official synopsis for Final Destination Bloodlines. “Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.” The film stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and the late Tony Todd.

Our own Tyler Nichols enjoyed Bloodlines, although he admits he wasn’t completely blown away. “One of the fun aspects of the series is the tension, and trying to add an equation to figuring out death’s plan just makes it all a tad lame,” Nichols wrote. “Not to mention constantly referring to death as a he, like he’s a physical person. Thankfully, this boasts some absolutely incredible kills, with some of them being the best of the franchise. Yes, I know, a bold claim. But I stand by it.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

Despite death taking a fourteen-year holiday from the big screen as far as the Final Destination franchise went, the saga is alive and well. As we predicted earlier this week, Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth entry in the series – and the first in fourteen years – set a major franchise record, opening to a mighty $51 million. By comparison, the highest-grossing opening weekend of the franchise had previously been The Final Destination back in 2009, which made $27.4 million. Bloodlines’ opening weekend take is actually more than what Final Destination 2 and 5 made in their entire runs.

One thing is for sure – audiences are loving the franchise’s return. Typically, horror movies don’t fare well in the weekly CinemaScore polls done by the studios, with a grade in the C-range usually considered typical. Final Destination: Bloodlines managed to score a B+ rating, which is terrific and bodes well for word-of-mouth, meaning the film could end its run in the $100 million range. Even if not through, it will easily end its run as the highest-grossing film in the franchise to date, and will no doubt have WB/New Line Cinema rushing to get yet another instalment in the franchise out within a year or two (at max).

Meanwhile, the battle for second place was a nail-biter, with Marvel’s Thunderbolts winning – but only by a hair – with them making $16.5 million in their third weekend for a $155 million domestic total. It seems unlikely to crack the $200 million mark, leaving this as one of the lowest-grossing Marvel movies. A lot of its thunder was taken by the zeitgeist-grabbing Sinners, which got back its 70mm IMAX screens this weekend, and made $15.4 million towards a $240 million domestic total. Is $300 million achievable?

Indeed, Warner Bros was having a very good weekend, with them claiming three of the top four grossing movies at the box office, as A Minecraft Movie made $5.9 million for fourth place, with a $416 million domestic total. Amazon/MGM’s The Accountant 2 continued to show some staying power, making $4.5 million for fifth place, with the $58.7 million total not far off from what the studio’s The Beekeeper made in January 2024. Could The Accountant 3 still happen? Fingers crossed!

The Weeknd’s big screen debut, Hurry Up Tomorrow, posted an abysmal opening, with only $3.3 million this weekend on over 2000 screens. We slammed the movie pretty harshly in our review, and audiences seemed to feel the same way, with it earning a C-minus CinemaScore rating. A24 – after a rough start to the year. – finally seems to have a hit with the Tim Robinson/ Paul Rudd comedy, Friendship, which made $1.4 million on only 60 screens, meaning it had a terrific $23k per screen average.

Sadly, IFC/Shudder’s Clown in a Cornfield lost over 60% of its audience in week two for a $1.3 million gross and $6.3 million total. However, it’s still one of the highest-grossing IFC/Shudder releases to date, and it should make a mint on streaming. The Fathom re-release of Kiki’s Delivery Service proved to be another winner for the company, scoring just over a million dollars. The top ten was rounded off by Until Dawn, which made $800k for a total of just under $20 million.

Next weekend should be huge, as there are two major Memorial Day openings happening between Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Which one is the priority for you next weekend? Let us know in the comments!

It may have taken fifteen years for the Final Destination franchise to once again hit the big screen, but clearly, its absence has not diluted its popularity at all. In fact, Final Destination: Bloodline will make more in its opening weekend than the last movie did in its entire run, with Deadline reporting that it’s looking at a $46 million weekend. That’s pretty much exactly what we predicted earlier this week. That’s also nearly $20 million more than the second-highest-grossing instalment, The Final Destination, made in its opening weekend back in 2009. The movie also has a strong B+ CinemaScore rating, which is very high for a horror movie.

In other surprising news, Marvel’s Thunderbolts should make $15.5 million in its third weekend, but there’s a good chance that Ryan Coogler’s Sinners will actually outgross it. The zeitgeist-grabbing movie is on track for about $15 million. However, given that it’s got its 70mm IMAX screens back this weekend, there’s a good chance that it will outgross Marvel’s somewhat underwhelming effort to shake up their formula a bit.

This week’s other new release, Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring The Weeknd, seems likely to gross anywhere between $3 million to $3.5 million. I slammed the flick in my review, and audiences seem to be agreeing, with a dismal C-minus CinemaScore, although clearly it’s resonating with some fans of the singer. Amazon/MGM’s The Accountant 2 seems likely to outgross it with $4.5 million, as it closes in on a $60 million total. It’s not too far off from matching The Beekeeper’s $66 million gross, although it won’t make as much as the original did. A24’s Friendship is also proving to be a solid cult hit for the studio, with it looking like it might gross $2 million on only 60 screens.

Check back tomorrow for our full box office wrap-up.

The horror franchise with the creative kills is back to splatter blood on the big screen. The new entry, Final Destination: Bloodlines, was long in development after the fifth installment. Franchise producer Craig Perry previously let it be known that the film was aiming for a theatrical release in 2025, in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. Tony Todd makes his last appearance in this film before his passing and is joined in the cast by Brec Bassinger, Richard Harmon, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Andrew Tinpo Lee, April Amber Telek, and Alex Zahara.

While Final Destination is a well-established franchise for the Warner Bros. studio, it remains to be seen if it can compete with the kind of numbers that Sinners recently brought in just weeks ago. Deadline reports that Final Destination: Bloodlines would see an early total of $4.6 million in Thursday night preview screenings. That would actually be $100k less than Sinners‘ previews, which would swell into a $48 million weekend opening. Final Destination: Bloodlines figures aren’t calculated to reach quite that high, but it could sit comfortably in the $35 million to $40 million range.

The latest entry in the death-stalking franchise is getting positive responses as well, with a current critic aggregate rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience rating of 90%. Screening showtimes started on Thursday at 3:30pm, but Warner Bros. hadn’t responded to Deadline’s request for comments on the early Thursday ticket sales. However, Final Destination: Bloodlines is on track to be the studio’s fourth number one opening this year after Mickey 17 (which ended up underperforming), A Minecraft Movie (which was a huge hit), Sinners (another big hit).

Our own Tyler Nichols enjoyed watching the film as he said in his review, “Overall, I enjoyed my time with Final Destination: Bloodlines, even if I wasn’t completely blown away. One of the fun aspects of the series is the tension, and trying to add an equation to figuring out death’s plan just makes it all a tad lame. PLOT: Plagued by a recurring violent nightmare, a college student returns home to find the one person who can break the cycle and save her family from the horrific fate that inevitably awaits them.

REVIEW: I have been a Final Destination fan since my teenage years and have seen each film dozens of times, if not more. There’s just something about the concept of a bunch of people escaping death, only for it to come back around and get them in incredibly violent ways. And as a fan, I always get a little worried when a new entry tries to mess with the mythology. Because Final Destination: Bloodlines takes aim at what came before it in a big, bad way. But does it result in a good movie?

Final Destination Bloodlines gives the franchise a twist, with the opening accident happening, only for our premonition to be seen by our supposed leads granddaughter in modern day. Turns out, her grandmother had a premonition decades prior, saved a bunch of people, and death has been having a helluva time cleaning up its mess. Entire families exist that weren’t supposed to, so death has to become Winston Wolfe. Only a lot messier. It makes things very convoluted and results in plenty of eye rolls. Is it really that hard to just have an accident, and then play clean-up crew? I guess this is what happens with a fifth sequel.

Brec Bassinger in Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025).

The franchise has already had some pretty incredible leads, so there was lot riding on Kaitlyn Santa Juana’s Stefani. She’s fine overall, but doesn’t have much personality. Having her not involved in the premonition means we’re not getting much in the way of character development. For her at least. Meanwhile, Iris gets the audience invested in her, which feels a tad wasted since we’re mostly getting her as an older lady. Given the change in how the premonition works, this is the most the series has ever felt like an ensemble. But none of these people are likable, so it’s easy to root on their deaths.

I’d argue the most important part of any Final Destination is its opening accident, and this one rules. There were so many deaths that I lost track by the end. As violent as this movie gets, they’re so over the top that the entire experience is a blast. I was laughing in my seat, having a great time with all the carnage. Though if I had to have a mark against it, it gets way too heavy with the CGI. This is a problem throughout, with many of the deaths being nothing but CGI gore explosions, which I always hate. Thankfully, the garbage truck and x-ray death are some all-timers that are sure to be on plenty of favorite kill lists going forward.

Tony Todd in Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025).

Tony Todd’s death felt like a gut punch earlier this year, but it’s awesome that we get to see him reprise one of his most famous roles here with the mortician, Bludworth. His in a similar role that we’ve seen him in before, giving our cast of characters some much-needed exposition. But there’s obviously a tinge of sadness to Todd’s final appearance in the series. I’m happy to say that it’s an absolutely beautiful tribute and probably his best cameo in the franchise. He’s involved in the story in a much more significant way, even if it only boils down to one scene.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with Final Destination: Bloodlines, even if I wasn’t completely blown away. One of the fun aspects of the series is the tension, and trying to add an equation to figuring out death’s plan just makes it all a tad lame. Not to mention constantly referring to death as a he, like he’s a physical person. Thankfully, this boasts some absolutely incredible kills, with some of them being the best of the franchise. Yes, I know, a bold claim. But I stand by it.

This weekend is poised to break Marvel’s run at the top of the box office heap thanks to the long-awaited return of a beloved horror franchise. Indeed, Final Destination: Bloodlines, the first entry into the series since 2011, has a good shot at grossing more over its opening weekend than most of the other instalments made during their entire North American runs. Currently, the movie is expected to open anywhere between $40 and $60 million. I’m thinking $45 million is a reasonable estimate, but either way, Bloodlines seems likely to gross significantly more than any of the other entries did. For context, the highest-grossing entry is still The Final Destination, which made $66 million, while the last is the lowest with $42.5 million. It seems like this will be yet another home run for Warner Bros., who are coming off two major hits with A Minecraft Movie and Sinners.

But, where does that leave Thunderbolts? More than likely, it will dip another 40-50% for a weekend in the high teens. While it’s doing decent business, it seems unlikely to cross the double century mark, making it one of Marvel’s lowest-grossing movies ever. However, the budget was lower than usual, so it’s probably not being considered too much of a flop at Disney, with its director, Jake Schreier, rumoured to be Marvel’s pick to helm their new X-Men movie

Sinners will have another great weekend, with it returning to IMAX screens for a one-week run (before they are taken over by Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning). It should make about $14 million, making it a close third-place winner to Thunderbolts. Heck, it’s not insane to think it could even theoretically hit second place (although that’s unlikely).

A Minecraft Movie should take fourth place with about $5 million. At the same time, The Weeknd’s vanity project, Hurry Up Tomorrow, might be able to capitalize on the singer’s fandom to make $4 million. The fan-exclusive screening I attended last night was full, but the word-of-mouth on this one is already toxic.

What are you seeing this weekend? Let us know in the comments!

It’s been fourteen years, but the Final Destination franchise is all set to make a triumphant return to the big screen this weekend with Final Destination: Bloodlines. The sixth film in the series, it stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana as a college student who inherits a family curse where they’re able to have premonitions about deaths before they happen. The difference in this one is that the death curse starts taking the descendants of survivors of a curse that happened decades before, giving the film a new twist on the old formula.

Final Destination: Bloodlines is directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, whose indie film, Freaks, became an unlikely smash hit on Netflix during the pandemic. Working with a studio budget, they’ve made what many are calling the franchise’s best instalment ever, with plenty of gory deaths we can add to our “best kills list” which we ran yesterday.

Today on JoBlo, our very own Jimmy O sat down with the cast including Rya Kihlstedt, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones as well as Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, and Owen Patrick Joyner as they talk about working together on the film and be sure to stick around as we also chatted with directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein!

Final Destination: Bloodlines opens in theaters on Friday. Make sure to check back for our review soon!

Last year, Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) finally, after years of development and a long year gap between sequels, made its way through production. Franchise producer Craig Perry previously let it be known that the film was aiming for a theatrical release in 2025, in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. It will even be on IMAX screens! It was recently confirmed that Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to reach theatres this Friday. The directing duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, were at the helm of this film – and during an interview with SFX magazine, Lipovsky said their hope is that the movie will throw viewers for a loop and keep them guessing because things play out in unpredictable ways.

Final Destination: Bloodlines has the following synopsis: Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all. It has been rated R for strong violent / grisly accidents, and language.

Tony Todd is joined in the cast by Brec Bassinger, Richard Harmon, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Andrew Tinpo Lee, April Amber Telek, and Alex Zahara.

Lipovsky revealed to SFX magazine, “For this film, the first premonition takes place in 1969. There are lots of deaths during the premonition, which is what normally happens in the opening sequence of a Final Destination movie, but we then come out of the eye of a different person in the modern day. That’s new. For a lot of fans, I think that’s going to immediately throw them for a loop. It’s going to make them lean forward to try and figure out what’s going on. As moviegoers, we love it when you have to lean forward in your seat because a movie is being unpredictable. We switch up a lot of the predictability, including who’s going to die next and how they are going to die. You might think it’s one person, but it’s not. There’s a delight in that.

For me, the Final Destination films have always been delightful. That’s why this is my favorite horror franchise of the 2000s, and I’m hyped that it’s finally coming back. I’ve been waiting for this movie ever since the opening weekend of Final Destination 5 way back in 2011.

Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is producing Final Destination: Bloodlines with Perry, Dianne McGunigle, and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Watts came up with the initial idea, which was fleshed out into a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick.

The post Best Deaths of the Final Destination Franchise appeared first on JoBlo.

As we ready for the release of another Final Destination: Bloodlines, it’s time that we look back on some of the great deaths that the franchise has to offer. Now, I’m not including the great deaths that we get during the opening accidents, since most of those don’t come to fruition anyway. I tried sticking with deaths that actually stick (which is why we also aren’t getting the slick escalator moment from Part 4). I had to draw the line somewhere, there are just too many good ones to cover!

And I’m very excited to be able to update this once I’ve witnessed the carnage of Final Destination: Bloodlines. Here’s hoping there are plenty of worthy additions.

Let’s get into the carnage.

Tod’s Shower Mishap – Final Destination

Our first instance in the series of the “rube goldberg” style of death, where one thing leads to another, which leads to another which finally ends in tragedy. This time, it’s Tod in the bathroom, set up perfectly to look like a suicide. Death by strangulation is bad enough, but the buildup to this, with the capillaries in his eyes bursting, makes this one stand out in its simplicity.

Racist Gets Dragged – The Final Destination

If there’s one thing the fourth film does right, it’s giving us characters that we WANT to see die. So it’s great to finally see this loser who’s trying to light a cross in this black man’s yard get a bit of karma. He’s lit on fire and dragged by his truck in the streets, which eventually blows up, sending parts of his body in every which way.

Olivia’s Eye Surgery – Final Destination 5

Feeling similar to the Dentist office scene in FD2, this one takes laser eye surgery and gives it a horrific twist, with the laser completely mangling poor Olivia. But it’s the fact that we get this long drawn out death AND a shock death, all in one. We never expect her to fall out a window, yet it happens and is a brutal ending to someone who just had their eye lasered out.

Mrs. Lewton Tries To Pack – Final Destination

This one just makes you feel bad for the poor victim. Mrs. Lewton is simply trying to pack up and leave town, but death has other plans, putting a knife through her chest before setting her whole house on fire. Part of me never felt too bad for her since she never believed Alex but hey, she definitely didn’t deserve this.

Crushed by Glass – Final Destination 2

There’s nothing quite like tricking an audience into thinking it’ll be one thing, only to have something else entirely. The glass panel is set up when Tim and his mom go to the dentist. Then, after being teased over and over that there’s going to be some kind of Dental mishap, he’s released, accident free. But, taking cues from Terry’s bus trip, we get a cacophony of violence that can’t be beat.

Ladder through the Eye – Final Destination 2

This one is so satisfying because the character himself is such a douchebag. Evan Lewis had just won the lottery, and his apartment is filled with all the crap that he’s just bought. Which adds a bit of irony when his house goes up in flames. We think it’s going to be the garbage disposal that gets him but instead it’s the ladder of the fire escape, which pierces his eye socket. Disgusting yet deserved.

Fence Dismemberment – Final Destination 2

Shortly after Kat has a pole slammed through her head, her death causes a chain reaction that sends a barb wire fence flying towards Rory. It takes a moment to realize what happened, but then his body just falls apart. The effect and shock value really make this one stand out. Poor Rory. One of the most underrated characters in the series.

Tanning Beds – Final Destination 3

They’ve fallen slightly out of vogue now, but in 2006 there were tanning beds EVERYWHERE. As someone in high school at the time, if you were a popular girl, you were going to a tanning booth. So to make this “everyday” item into a death trap, was enough to never get me inside one of these things ever. With some of the only nudity in any FD death, you hardly notice because it’s all so horrifying as these two girls burn alive.

Gymnastics Routine – Final Destination 5

I’ve been around gymnastics most of my life, so this one always hits different. There are so many things that it could be, from the loose screw to the electrically charged water, yet its simple physics that takes out Candice on her landing. The technical prowess of the effect really just brings this one home.

Terry’s Bus Trip – Final Destination

I’m not sure if there is any death more shocking in the franchise than when Terry steps out in the street and gets hit by the bus. It’s so out of nowhere, and would become a staple for the franchise going forward: the shock death. The reaction of the other characters and reverberation of the death throughout the next scene will often be repeated, but never imitated.

What are some of YOUR favorite Final Destination deaths? Did we miss any big ones? Let us know in the comments!

When Tony Todd passed away last year, movie fans lost a true horror icon. Not surprisingly, he had a number of movies that had yet to come out; but the last one will fittingly be Final Destination Bloodlines, in which he reprises his franchise character William Bludworth, a character he played in the first, second and fifth Final Destination movies.

With Final Destination Bloodlines, Tony Todd in a way had the chance to speak to the fans who have supported him throughout the decades. As producer Craig Perry noted, “Zach [Lipovsky] and Adam [Stein], our directors, they made a very shrewd decision to take the last couple of lines that were scripted and say, ‘Tony, just say what you would want to say to the fans. What would you like to impart to them in this moment?’ So, everything that makes that scene so emotional is authentic because that was just Tony talking through the camera to the very fans who supported him for so many years. So, it was a very magical moment on set. It was an impactful moment, and it’s one I’ll take with me until I go to the grave.” Perry also stated, “We all knew that he was obviously quite ill, and it was pretty clear that this was going to be the last role he would play in a movie. And the fact that it was one of the Final Destination movies made it that much more poignant.”

That’s a pretty touching moment – and no doubt creates a memorable monologue – especially considering Final Destination Bloodlines would end up being his final film, one that he is clearly in a much weaker and frailer state in.

The promos for Final Destination Bloodlines have put a lot of attention on Tony Todd. This may have been part of the plan to begin with considering Bludworth has been a fan favorite character in the franchise, but now it all feels like a fitting tribute to Todd, not just for his work in the Final Destination movies but his contributions to the horror genre as a whole.

A sixth Final Destination has been on the table for a number of years now, with the idea to reimagine the franchise, which hadn’t had a movie since 2011. That concept has long since been replaced, so you can see how Bloodlines fits in when it hits theaters on May 16th.

It was recently confirmed that Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to reach theatres on May 16, 2025, and a teaser trailer and a full trailer (embedded above) have both been unveiled. And for the next ten days, the release of the film is going to be promoted by a blood-splattered logging truck that will be prowling the streets on Ontario and Quebec.

A press release lets us know, “Warner Bros. Pictures Canada is bringing a taste of movie magic off-screen and on to the roads with one of the franchise’s most infamous kills. Beginning today and through to Victoria Day, a blood-splattered Final Destination logging truck will be making rounds across major highways and downtown locations in Ontario and Quebec. Stuck in rush hour? No problem! The truck displays a bloody twist on the classic, ‘How’s my driving?’ bumper sticker, encouraging fans to scan QR codes to purchase advance tickets to the film. At select movie theatre stops, horror enthusiasts can take home exclusive promo items (while supplies last) and will have the opportunity to step into a photo op that brings the trailer’s pulse-pounding lawnmower death scene to life. Follow along on the Warner Bros. Pictures Canada social channels for real-time updates on where the log truck may be headed next.” Images of the truck can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Tony Todd reprises the role of mortician Bludworth, a role he previously played in Final Destination, Final Destination 2, and Final Destination 5, and is joined in the cast by Brec Bassinger, Richard Harmon, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Rya Kihlstedt, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Andrew Tinpo Lee, April Amber Telek, and Alex Zahara.

The directing duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, were at the helm of this film.

Now, a promotional featurette has been unveiled that focuses entirely on Todd and his character Bludworth, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Final Destination is my favorite horror franchise of the 2000s. I’m hyped that it’s finally coming back, and that Tony Todd was able to work on the new movie. I’ve been waiting for this one ever since the opening weekend of Final Destination 5 way back in 2011.

Are you looking forward to seeing Tony Todd play Bludworth again in Final Destination: Bloodlines? Take a look at the featurette, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Usually, when a horror film breaks a record during production, it’s for something like the amount of fake blood used, but Final Destination: Bloodlines has set a surprising new benchmark—it features the oldest person ever to be set on fire on camera. I can’t say I saw that coming.

We lit so many different people on fire, including breaking the world record for oldest person on fire with Yvette Ferguson, who did that full body burn in the silver dress,Bloodlines co-director Zach Lipovsky told Entertainment Weekly. “That was the oldest person ever on fire, on camera.

Ferguson, a retired stuntwoman and actress, was coaxed out of retirement at 71 to take on the role of Mrs. Fuller. The stunt team has even contacted Guinness World Records about her fiery feat, although they’re still waiting to hear back.

The scene in question occurs in the 1960s in a restaurant on the tip of a 400-foot-tall tower. It was featured in the trailer, and as you might imagine, everything goes wrong, with people falling to their deaths as the restaurant explodes around them and splits apart. Brec Bassinger, who plays Iris in the scene, was present during Ferguson’s full-body burn. “Oh, I was on set when they lit her on fire!” she said. “I was within her vicinity. God, it was beautiful. Everyone started clapping… She was so pumped.

One of the special things about Final Destination that I don’t think really exists anywhere else is that you get that scale,” Lipovsky said. “You get that disaster movie Hollywood feeling, but at an extremely R-rated tone, which is very rare. You get that Roland Emmerich spectacle, but you see the people explode and light on fire and falter in their deaths, and you don’t cut away. It was really cool to play with achieving both of those things at the same time.

The first reactions to the sequel have been positively glowing, but we’ll soon find out how it stacks up to the rest of the franchise when the film hits theaters on May 16th.

2025 Summer Horror Movie Preview https://www.joblo.com/2025-summer-horror-movie-preview/ https://www.joblo.com/2025-summer-horror-movie-preview/#respond Sun, 04 May 2025 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=838654 We take a look at some of our most anticipated HORROR RELEASES from the Summer 2025 box office, shaping up to be the best one yet!

The post 2025 Summer Horror Movie Preview appeared first on JoBlo.

It’s that time of the year when studios release their big Summer blockbusters, hoping to rake in the dough. But with large tentpole releases struggling, there seems to be a shift in the kinds of films we’re getting. Sure, we’re still getting our usual slew of Superhero fare, but the horror genre has never looked better. Horror has been such a proven commodity that it feels like we have more summer horror releases than ever before. And I can’t blame studios as horror has been a consistent moneymaker, usually for pretty cheap. So let’s parse through all the releases, and see which are worth a trip to the theater for. And a recent trailer may have dropped one off this list. Proving that not all trailers help build anticipation: some kill it completely.

Now let’s get into our 10 most anticipated horror movies of Summer 2025.

Clown in a Cornfield – May 9th

Based on the book series of the same name, you’re either down for a film called “Clown in a Cornfield” or you’ve already started scrolling. It’s a pretty basic concept about Frendo the Clown taking out teenagers in a midwestern town. Chris Bumbray reviewed this a few months ago, and I was lucky enough to see it already as well, and it’s an absolute blast. This is a slasher that general audiences can really latch onto. Slasherheads needs to go in with reasonable expectations, though, as it’s rather tame overall.

Final Destination: Bloodlines – May 16th

After 13 long years, the Final Destination series finally returns! Everything that’s come out so far makes it look like they’re flipping the formula on its head and changing some rules, so I’m going into this a bit more trepidatious than others. I’m a massive fan of the franchise (as evidenced by all the videos I’ve done on it on our Horror YouTube Channel) and just hope it gets a proper return that doesn’t ruin the films that came before it. I’m grateful to get a big screen send off for Tony Todd.

Bring Her Back – May 30th

The creators of Talk To Me are back with their follow-up film, and it already has the internet abuzz. With a unique marketing campaign and an absolutely stellar leading lady in Sally Hawkins, this horror film takes a look at a brother and sister, and the terrifying ritual their foster mother is putting them through. This looks genuinely creepy in a way that few films can achieve. Here’s hoping that the Philippou Brothers pull it off again.

Dangerous Animals – June 6th

This may just be my most anticipated film of the entire summer. A serial killer that uses sharks to kill his victims? Sign me right the fuck up! Jai Courtney and Hassie Harrison star in this gripping thriller about a surfer kidnapped by a deranged psychopath and tied up on his boat. She has to escape before being fed to the hungry sharks around the boat. I adore any kind of shark thriller as they tend to be really entertaining, even if the quality is questionable (we’ll get into that later). The FX work looks great here and it looks to have a great grasp on how to utilize the sharks without them looking fake and cheap.

28 Years Later – June 20th

Danny Boyle returns to the franchise (I guess we can call it that now) that he helped create. As the title states, this is set 28 years after the original film and its outbreak, zeroing in on a small island, separated from the infection. A father (Aaron Taylor Johnson) and his son leave the safeties of the island for some sort of…manhood ritual? That’s what the trailers make it seem like. Not much longer till we find out for sure, but it sounds like we won’t see Cillian Murphy showing up in this planned trilogy until at least the second film, as he’s been confirmed to not be in this one.

M3GaN 2.0 – June 27th

This is only here because of you people, and I am absolutely dreading it. This trailer plays before damn near every single movie that I see and it has become the bane of my existence. I hated the first film and can’t stand this “wink at the camera” style of filmmaking. The fact that they’re going the T2 route, having M-3-gen (sound it out) become a hero to take down a more advanced version just has me yawning. Here’s hoping the TikTok dance was worth our cinematic integrity.

Together – August 1st

Husband/Wife duo Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in this horror film that I’ve honestly been staying away from, ever since I heard it has body horror. So let’s look at what the brief description says: “After moving to the countryside, a supernatural encounter starts to transform a couple’s love, their lives, and their flesh.” Sign me right up.

Weapons – August 8th

Steeped in mystery, Weapons definitely has one of the best marketing campaigns of any of the films on this list. We recently got an awesome trailer, and we still know very little, just that a bunch of kids in Julia Garner’s class disappeared in the middle of the night, and it looks like the town is blaming her. This is one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer and for good reason: Zach Cregger is proving to be a formidable name in the world of horror.

The Toxic Avenger – August 29th

After what feels like eternity of waiting, we’re finally getting to see Peter Dinklage as Toxie in this reboot of the cult classic. Co-starring Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood, Macon Blair’s remake transforms a downtrodden janitor into a gross and grimey superhero. People who have seen it seem to love it, and the trailer looks like the same kind of fun we got from the Street Trash remake last year.

The Shallows (2025) – ????

Everyone remembers the Blake Lively movie from 2016 right? It was a pretty decent shark thriller that left a decent impression on folks. So I’m sure none of us expected China to remake it, and give it a Groundhog’s Day-style twist, with the shark killing our protagonist over and over again. But that’s exactly what they did and it looks absolutely glorious. This is the only film on the list without its release date officially announced but come on: like they’re not going to release a shark movie in the summer?! Keep your eyes here on JoBlo.com for the eventual release announcement and review.

It was recently confirmed that Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to reach theatres on May 16, 2025, and a teaser trailer and a full trailer (embedded above) have both been unveiled. Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have shared ten new images from the film, and you can check them out at the bottom of this article!

Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is producing the film with Perry, Dianne McGunigle, and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Watts came up with the initial idea, which was fleshed out into a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick. The directing duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, are at the helm.

Final Destination is my favorite horror franchise of the 2000s, so I’m hyped that it’s finally coming back. I’ve been waiting for this movie ever since the opening weekend of Final Destination 5 way back in 2011.

Warner Bros. has plenty of horror offerings on its slate and showcased a few of them during its presentation at CinemaCon, including Maggie Gyllenhaalʼs The Bride.

Audiences were treated to a teaser trailer for The Bride, which star Jessie Buckley (who plays the titular character) described as “the punkest love that’s ever existed.” Think Bonnie and Clyde, Wild at Heart, Sid & Nancy, and Natural Born Killers. The teaser finds Buckley’s character being horrifically murdered, but she’s later reanimated and meets Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster. The pair set out to avenge her murder and become fugitives.

Warner Bros, CinemaCon, The Bride, Mortal Kombat II

Gyllenhaal said she was looking for something “pop and big” and “radical” for her next project. She encountered a man at a party with a Bride of Frankenstein tattoo on his arm. “It hooked me and I went home and watched the movie,” she said. “The bride is in the movie for about three minutes and she doesn’t speak which could not be more different than our bride.

All of us have a little aspect of something monstrous in us, which is why we love monster movies, probably,” she continued. “You can run from it your entire life or you can shake hands with it… The monsters in our movie do monstrous things…but they’re also our heroes.” In the film, Frankenstein’s monster is a lover of movies, and Gyllenhaal shot the film in IMAX.

We also saw a clip from Final Destination: Bloodlines, which our own Chris Bumbray said looked like a blast. If you’d like to stay completely unspoiled, I recommend refraining from reading the clip’s description.

It features two brothers who are arguing in a hospital about the best way to cheat death, either by killing someone else or killing themselves by flatlining and resituating. One brother has a peanut allergy, so he decides to buy some peanut butter cups at the vending machine. It gets stuck, they try to tip the machine, it almost falls on them, but doesn’t. In another room, an MRI machine turns on and gruesomely pulls the piercings from one of the brother’s nose, chest, and ears. The other brother starts to have a reaction to the peanut butter cups, and… well, it doesn’t turn out well for them.

There was also a sizzle reel for Mortal Kombat II, which ends with Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage exclaiming, “I’m Johnny f***ing Cage!” New Line chief Richard Brenner, who introduced the movie, added that we should “Expect amazing fights, epic battles and a few fatalities.” The film is set to hit theaters on October 24th.

Another movie hitting WB’s CinemaCon stage is Weapons from Barbarian director Zach Cregger. The mysterious film stars Julie Garner and Josh Brolin. The CinemaCon crowd saw an early trailer for the film. As it unravels, it constantly reinvents itself. The teaser is exclusive to CinemaCon and will not be released to the public.

The film is set in a small town where a classroom of children taught by Julia Garner vanishes. All the kids woke up the night before, walked into the dark, and never returned. Brolin is a father in the film, and people think he’s somehow involved with the children vanishing. Nightmares of the child haunt Garner’s character. As folks said, Weapons is like a horror version of Magnolia. The preview for Weapons has some striking imagery and was filmed in IMAX.

Final Destination: Bloodlines, trailer views, most watched

The first full trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines was released earlier this week and generated some major traffic. In fact, Deadline reports that the trailer gathered 178.2 million views worldwide after just 24 hours, making it the second most-watched horror trailer of all time. The honour of the most-watched horror trailer of all time belongs to It, which recorded 197 million views in a 24-hour period upon its release in 2017.

There are many ways to measure trailer traffic, and the report states that TikTok views were included in this measurement. However, it notes that even if you remove TikTok from the equation, the trailer views for Final Destination: Bloodlines still exceed those of the previous second-place record holder: the trailer for 28 Years Later.

The trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines is a lot of fun, so I can see why audiences have been so into it. It’s also rather bittersweet as it includes the late Tony Todd, who sadly died last year. The actor returns as William Bludworth, the mortician who knows a little more about Death than he should. The character appeared in Final Destination, Final Destination 2, and Final Destination 5. This will be Todd’s final movie.

The last installment of the franchise was released nearly 15 years ago, so this one has been a long time coming. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein directed the new sequel, and their memorable pitch helped them win the gig. The pitch was held over Zoom, and when the meeting was set to wrap up, a spreading fire in the background led to a ceiling fan breaking off and decapitating one of the filmmakers.

The newest chapter in New Line Cinema’s bloody successful franchise takes audiences back to the very beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice,” reads the official synopsis for Final Destination: Bloodlines. “Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.” The film stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and Tony Todd. The film is set to hit theaters on May 16th.

It will even be on IMAX screens! It was recently confirmed that Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to reach theatres on May 16, 2025… and now, a teaser trailer for the film has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Perry teased a long time ago that this new sequel would feature a sequence set in a tattoo parlor, and now that sequence is the focus of the teaser trailer. I’m a huge fan of the Final Destination franchise, I have been looking forward to part 6 ever since the opening weekend of Final Destination 5 in 2011, and I have to say – it’s heartwarming to see Death back in action in this teaser trailer.

Final Destination: Bloodlines has the following synopsis: Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.

The late, great Tony Todd reprised the role of mortician Bludworth in this film, and he’s joined in the cast by Brec Bassinger, Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee.

Final Destination 3

Last year, Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) finally, after years of development and a thirteen year gap between sequels, made its way through production. Franchise producer Craig Perry previously let it be known that the film was aiming for a theatrical release in 2025 – in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. It will even be on IMAX screens! Last month, it was confirmed that Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to reach theatres on May 16, 2025. The project is still on track for that release date, as composer Tim Wynn has taken to social media to reveal that his work on the film is done – and in the process, he also revealed the title logo!

According to entertainment industry scooper Daniel Richtman, Final Destination: Bloodlines has the following synopsis: Just as she’s about to leave home for college, 18 year old STEFANI, who’s been having horrific nightmares about dying in a tower accident in the 1960s, discovers that her dream is actually a premonition that happened to her grandmother, Esther, who thwarted death fifty years ago but is now running out of time. Stefani learns that though her grandmother thwarted Death (until she died in her 80s), and Death has been going after the would-have-been victims of that long-ago catastrophe, killing them off and then going after their children. Stefani and her family realize that their bloodline isn’t safe from Death, who will take them violently and gruesomely, in order, unless someone like Stefani figures out a way to stop it.

Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is producing the film with Perry, Dianne McGunigle, and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Watts also wrote the initial treatment, which was fleshed out into a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick. The directing duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, are at the helm.

Tim Wynn has previously composed the score for Lipovsky and Stein’s Freaks, episodes of the TV series Supernatural, and many video games, among other credits.
