As per Lionsgate“Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.” Joining Ana de Armas in Ballerina as John Wick newcomers Gabriel Byrne as The Chancellor, Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Eve’s mentor Nogi and Choi Soo-young, who becomes part of an early mission for Eve. Other than Keanu Reeves and Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston returns as The Director and Ian McShane is back as Continental owner Winston Scott. The MPA has given the film an R ratingfor strong/bloody violence throughout, and language.

From Apple Original Films and the filmmakers from Top Gun: Maverick comes the high-octane, action-packed feature film F1 The Movie (the new official title adds the qualifier “The Movie”), starring Brad Pitt and directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, seven-time FORMULA 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Chad Oman.

Jerry Bruckheimer and Joseph Kosinski collaborated for Top Gun: Maverick and their reunion on this project brings to mind when Bruckheimer and Tony Scott collaborated on both the first Top Gun and the racing film, Days of Thunder (which was dubbed by some as Top Gun-on-a-race-track). Had Tom Cruise chosen to do this, we may have had history repeat itself!

Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

F1 The Movie also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem, and has been shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.

Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, whose credits include Arlington Road and some of the Transformers films. The film is executive produced by Daniel Lupi. Kosinski’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes his director of photography Claudio Miranda, production designers Mark Tildesley and Ben Munro, editor Stephen Mirrione, costume designer Julian Day, casting director Lucy Bevan and composer Hans Zimmer.

Apple Original Films is working in association with Monolith Pictures / Jerry Bruckheimer / Plan B Entertainment / Dawn Apollo Films Production, F1 The Movie, is to be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, in theaters and IMAX nationwide on June 27, 2025 and internationally beginning 25 June 2025.

When Kosinski talked about what inspired him to do a Formula One movie after Top Gun: Maverick, he stated, “Well, I think like a lot of people during Covid, I found myself starting to watch the races and found this great television show called Drive to Survive, and I found that it’s an incredibly unique sport in that your teammate is also your, in many ways, your greatest competition. And for me, that makes for a great drama. I also loved how the first season of the show focused on the last place teams, the underdogs rather than the Ferrari, the Mercedes, the Red Bull, the teams that you see at the front of the pack. And I thought that there was an interesting story to be told about an underdog team in trying to not win the championship, but just trying to win one race against these titans of the sport. So that’s where it started. And lucky for me, I had a contact who was in Formula One that I could reach out to, so I did.”

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. CinemaCon is in full swing in Las Vegas, and the Warner Bros. presentation is underway. The audience got an extended look at Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another as Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor took the stage.

During the presentation, DiCaprio said he’s wanted to work with Paul Thomas Anderson for 20 years. He praises the movie, saying it’s epic in scope and scale but allows the actors to improvise and dictate where the story goes. The crowd also got an extended sneak peek at the film highlighting the score by Jonny Greenwood, which is tense. The clip shows more of DiCaprio unable to remember the passphrase he needs to contact his old gang. He doesn’t remember the passphrase because his drugs and alcohol have fried his brain for 30 years. DiCaprio comes off like Rick Dalton in these scenes.

F1, CinemaCon, One Battle After Another

Meanwhile, Benicio del Toro’s character, who is with him, is calmly loading a sniper rifle and getting ready for action. Del Toro’s got a great line in the scene: “You know what freedom is? No, fear – like Tom f***ing Cruise.” The film will hit theaters on September 26th.

To break out some of the big guns, Warner Bros. invited Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer to the CinemaCon stage to tease F1, the racing drama starring Brad Pitt. According to Bruckheimer, F1 is the next Top Gun: Maverick. The racing scenes in the movie have Maverick dogfight vibes, with Pitt performing his own driving in the film. Bruckheimer urges audiences to see the movie in theaters, as it will offer a unique experience.

Our editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, saw the first 10 minutes of F1, and all he could say was, “F***ing wow!” The extended clip introduces Pitt’s character, who preps for a race as Led Zepplin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ plays. He’s at 24 Hours of Daytona. His team is losing positions, so he climbs into a car and drives maniacally. The racing is crazy. This mood really is Top Gun: Maverick on wheels. You get in the car with Pitt and feel what it must be like to be inside, with the vehicles being unsteady and hard to control. Everything is real. It’s really intense stuff, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Even Days of Thunder and Grand Prix were a lot less immersive. This feels like a ride. Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, seems inspired by Steve McQueen and is aggressive and iconic. Shea Whighan plays his crew chief. F1 will hit theaters on June 27th.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Joseph Kosinski, the director of 2022’s box-office-saving champion, Top Gun: Maverick, is back with F1. This underdog racing drama puts audiences in the driver’s seat of vehicles and emotions traveling at 180 mph. After months of teasing his follow-up to the Tom Cruise-led blockbuster, Kosinski is ready to let the first trailer for F1 out of the gate!

Joseph Kosinski’s F1 trailer stars Brad Pitt (Bullet Train), Damon Idris (Snowpiercer), Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Tobias Menzies (The Crown), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve), and Samson Kayo (Truth Seekers).

Today’s F1 trailer highlights the drama on and off the track between Brad Pitt (Sonny Hayes) and Damon Idris (Joshua Pearce) and the adrenaline-pumping camerawork from Kosinski and his crew. F1 tells a compelling underdog story about racers looking to make their mark by working together to win a single race. Sparks and emotions fly as Hayes and Pearce butt heads while Ruben (Javier Bardem) tries to keep them from killing each other, and Kate (Carrie Condon) gets to the heart of the racing duo’s heated partnership.

In addition to today’s F1 trailer reveal, we recently attended a sneak peek of the footage with Joseph Kosinski and world-famous Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton making introductions to the anticipated preview. The panel, moderated by Scottish DJ and presenter Edith Bowman, began with Hamilton expressing his enthusiasm for the film, mentioning its authenticity, intense depiction of speed, and powerhouse performances.

“Joe, Jerry, Brad, the cast and the whole Filmmaking Team put an incredible amount of effort to deliver a genuine Formula 1 racing experience, unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before on screen,” said Hamilton. “As you may have heard, the film was shot during the F1 races over the course of a season, and with Joe at the helm, audiences around the globe are going to feel like they’re on the track and in the driver’s seat.”

Hamilton continued, “Watching Brad drive around speeds over 180 miles an hour was really impressive to see because it’s not something you can just learn overnight. And the dedication and the focus that Brad put into this process has been amazing to witness. This film has got it all. Brad Pitt, speed, thrills, an epic underdog story, drama, humor, and a little bit of romance.”

“You may even recognize some familiar faces from the world of Formula One racing. As someone who’s dedicated his whole life to this sport, I’m so, so honored to have worked alongside this team of actors and filmmakers. This has been such a thrill for me. And I genuinely promise this film delivers on every level.”

Next, Edith asked Joseph Kosinski what inspired him to tackle the exciting world of Formula 1 racing as his next feature-length project.

“Well, I think like a lot of people during Covid, I found myself starting to watch the races and found this great television show called Drive to Survive, and I found that it’s an incredibly unique sport in that your teammate is also your, in many ways, your greatest competition.

Edith then inquired about Kosinski’s approach to capturing the overwhelming speed of Formula 1 racing on camera.

“Well, the first thing I did was I reached out to Lewis Hamilton who gave that incredible intro, and obviously he lives that sport every day,” Kosinski said. “He’s one of the greatest of all time and asked him to be my partner on making this film. So having Lewis gave me this incredible in into this world, and one of the people he introduced me to was Toto Wolf, the team principal of Mercedes. And I started talking with them about wanting to capture the speed of this sport, and It was actually Toto who came up with the idea of rather than making a movie car fast enough to kind of achieve these speeds, he said, why don’t you start with a race car and take a real race car and then work the cameras that you need into that. So we did that. We actually bought six F2 cars, real F2 race cars and worked with Mercedes AMG, the Formula One team and their engineers to build real race cars that could carry our camera equipment recorders and transmitters for making this film. So every time you see Brad or Damson driving this movie, they’re driving on their own in one of these real race cars on a real F1 track. So that’s kind of how we approached the making of this film.”

F1, Joseph Kosinski, trailer

Next, Kosinski commented on the importance of featuring compelling characters at the story’s center, saying, “It always starts with a great script and a great story. I knew that no matter how accurate or exciting the racing is, it doesn’t mean anything if you’re not telling a story supported with great characters. So it all starts with the script and worked with Aaron Krueger, who also worked on Top Gun Maverick. He wrote an incredible script for us to start with. And then the most important thing a director does beyond developing the script is casting.”

“Casting is everything. And the group of actors that we pulled together for this film is pretty incredible. Javier Bardem and Brad together, their friendship, which is an old one- three decades old, really is the core of this story and of this film and just seeing them together on screen is really special,” Joseph continued. “Carrie Condon- Yeah, she’s incredible. She plays the team technical director, so she’s the person in charge of designing the car and the engineers and the drivers. There’s some healthy tension there on every team, and it makes for a great relationship between the two of them. And then Damson Idris, who people might know from his television career, but maybe not from the movies. I’m really excited for people to see him here going toe to toe with Brad on a big screen and a big story. So yeah, we have an incredible cast of supporting actors as well. And yeah, it’s a great ensemble.”

Continuing to discuss the film, Joseph detailed the filming process, revealing how he and Sony worked side-by-side to ensure the cameras could capture all the action.

“I mean, the big challenge was just the camera system itself. I mean, we had to develop a brand new camera system taking everything we learned on Top Gun Maverick and pushing it much further. You can’t put 60 pounds of gear onto a race car and expect it’s going to perform the same way. So we took those top gun cameras and we worked closely with Sony, sizing them down to something about a quarter of the size. And then on top of that, something I really wanted to do on this film was actually be able to operate and move the cameras while we were shooting, which was something we weren’t able to do on Top Gun. So we have motorized mounts on the car as well. So you have transmitters that are transmitting the picture back. We’ve got transmitters controlling the movement of the camera. I’m sitting at the base station with Claudio, our cinematographer looking at 16 screens. I’ve got camera operators on the controls for the cameras and it’s calling out. Camera moves like a live television show while they’re shooting. So much research and technology and development went into just being able to roll a frame of footage in addition to the training for the actors and the logistics of shooting at a real race. So it was a lot of prep to be able to pull this off.”

I can’t say I’m a big racing fan, but even I can admit that the glimpses we’ve seen of Joseph Kosinski’s F1 look quite amazing. If you’d like another look at the upcoming film, a behind-the-scenes video was released at the recent F1 75 Live season launch event at London’s The O2.

You can talk about speed,” Kosinski said, “but we wanted to make audiences feel it.” The production used the “groundbreaking” camera technology they used on Top Gun: Maverick but “pushed it even further” for F1. The racing footage is incredibly thrilling, and even F1 driver Lewis Hamilton (who is a producer on the film) was blown away, saying, “The F1 movie is as authentic a racing movie has ever been.” You can check out the entire behind-the-scenes video for F1 above; it’s well worth the watch.

F1 stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a Formula One driver who was forced to retire after a horrible crash in the ’90s. But when his friend (Javier Bardem) asks him to come out of retirement to mentor a young rookie (Damson Idris), he finds himself back in action. “They’re a last place team, they’re 21-22 on the grid, they’ve never scored a point,” Pitt said in 2023. “But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue. Tell you what’s amazing about it — there are cameras mounted all over the car — you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen just the G-forces like this. It’s really, really exciting.” The film also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Shea Whigham, and more.

As the film was made in collaboration with Formula One, it features many teams and drivers appearing as themselves, including Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, and many more.

There have been reports that the budget has ballooned to $300 million, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer disputed that number, saying it’s “quite a bit lower than what’s been reported” and that they made a lot back in rebates and sponsorships. “What people don’t realize is, first of all, we’re shooting in rebate [locations], England has a big rebate, lots of Europe has rebates and so does Abu Dhabi,” he explained. “It all lowers the budget. Plus, we’ve raised more money for our car [through sponsorship] than some Formula 1 teams. You take that all into consideration and it really drops that number quite a bit lower than what people would think.

F1 will hit theaters on June 27th.

]]>

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and as usual, Hollywood is rolling out all the big guns in terms of spots teasing the year’s biggest releases. Keep your eye on this post as we keep track of all the movie spots right here!

F1

One of the riskiest movies of the year is, without a doubt, F1. A giant-budget movie about Formula One racing, it marks Joseph Kosinski’s much-anticipated follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick, and boasts an all-star cast led by Brad Pitt. In it, he plays a former champ who re-enters F1 racing to mentor a younger driver (Damon Idris) at the behest of his old sponsor, played by Javier Bardem. Sporting a budget that’s somewhere in the $300 million range, in order for this movie to turn a profit it probably has to make about $700-800 million worldwide, numbers Brad Pitt has never mustered throughout his career, with World War Z’s $540 million remaining his top-earner.

Produced by Apple, the film certainly has a lot going for it, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing, a score by Hans Zimmer, as well as the fact that it’s getting an IMAX release. Given Formula One’s popularity overseas, the hope is that even if the movie only performs modestly in North America, it’ll be a worldwide smash. The highest-grossing racing movie to date is Ford V Ferrari, which made $225 million worldwide.

Novocaine:

Next up, Jack Quaid makes the leap from The Boys to the big screen with his stab at action movie stardom – Novocaine. In this cool-sounding flick, Quaid plays a mild-mannered bank executive with a unique condition – he’s unable to feel pain. When the girl of his dreams (Prey‘s Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped in a heist gone awry, he uses his condition to his advantage as he turns into an unstoppable action hero trying to save her from a gang of thieves.

Lilo & Stitch:

While we didn’t get the Lilo & Stitch trailer, we all thought, Disney did indeed give us a sneak peek at their upcoming live-action remake, with our furry protagonist invading the Super Bowl, giving us a look at a creature which will no doubt sell a whole lot of toys this year.

Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise is back for what might be his last go-round as Ethan Hunt in a new teaser for Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning, which ends with a nifty tease of one of the movie’s big action setpieces, which seems to have been shot in an IMAX aspect ratio. Very, very cool.

How to Train Your Dragon:

While a full trailer for the How to Train Your Dragon remake drops Wednesday, this thirty-second sneak peek gives us a fresh look at the much-anticipated movie’s scale, revealing it was shot for IMAX screens.

Thunderbolts*

One movie that did get a full trailer is Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, which is the next MCU movie to come out (after this week’s Captain America: Brave New World), with the trailer giving us a good look at the movie’s ensemble cast and tone (gotta love the use of Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us”).

Jurassic World: Rebirth

Given that the full trailer just dropped days ago, there’s not too much new here other than a nifty peak at a new underwater dinosaur who, no doubt, will eat one of our lower-billed heroes of the cast for lunch (my money is on Rupert Friend, who seems to be playing an antagonist).

Which were your favorite Super Bowl spots? Tell us in the comments below.
