Time is winding down for the summer movie season. Big releases are nearly here, which means they will be graded with ratings from the MPA due to their content.

Ballerina is finally about to make its way into theaters on June 6. As per Lionsgate“Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.” Joining Ana de Armas in Ballerina as John Wick newcomers Gabriel Byrne as The Chancellor, Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Eve’s mentor Nogi and Choi Soo-young, who becomes part of an early mission for Eve. Other than Keanu Reeves and Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston returns as The Director and Ian McShane is back as Continental owner Winston Scott. The MPA has given the film an R ratingfor strong/bloody violence throughout, and language.

The racing film that releases on June 27 has been Rated PG-13 for strong language, and action.

Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) directed the movie from a script by Rob Lieber (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day). The legacy movie has been Rated PG-13 for martial arts violence and some language.

On June 27, it’s “this b*tch vs. that b*tch” in M3GAN 2.0. Based on a story crafted by producer James Wan, M3GAN was directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). Johnstone returned to the helm for the sequel, and Cooper has written the script. The tongue-in-cheek AI horror thriller is Rated PG-13 for strong violent content, bloody images, some strong language, sexual material, and brief drug references.

When you think of me, you should think of fire…The final trailer for John Wick spin-off Ballerina has arrived ahead of its release next month, building hype for the ever-expanding franchise.

Lionsgate’s latest trailer for Ballerina – whose full title is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina – is a true showcase of action, with Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro fighting off baddies and running into some familiar faces, John Wick among them, who emerges from the snowy shadows and immediately starts getting fired upon by Eve. We also get a look at Continental Hotel concierge Charon, played by Lance Reddick, who passed away in March 2023. Ballerina serves as his final credit.

As per Lionsgate, “Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.” Joining Ana de Armas in Ballerina as John Wick newcomers Gabriel Byrne as The Chancellor, Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Eve’s mentor Nogi and Choi Soo-young, who becomes part of an early mission for Eve. Other than Keanu Reeves and Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston returns as The Director and Ian McShane is back as Continental owner Winston Scott.

One of the most fetching parts of the final trailer for Ballerina is that it gives us a much better look at the show that Ana de Armas is hoping to put on. As she teased late into production, she had been seeing all sorts of injuries, although she knew she needed to suck it up if Keanu Reeves was pulling it off at 60. “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain. My body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes, this is a whole movie, another level.” Ana de Armas added, “But the other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing these crazy stunts. And I’m like, I can’t complain anymore, I’m done. Because he is doing it!”

Ballerina twirls to theaters on June 6th.

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. Back in 2017, Lionsgate bought an action thriller spec script called Ballerina, which was written by Shay Hatten and ranked on The Black List as one of the best unproduced screenplays of that year. The idea was to have Hatten rewrite the script to take place within the world of Lionsgate’s John Wick franchise – and Hatten was also hired to co-write John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which included a set-up for the Ballerina concept of ballerina assassins. Hatten did his rewrite, Len Wiseman was hired to direct the film, Ana de Armas was cast as the title character, and now, Ballerina is ready to make its way out into the world, with a theatrical release scheduled for June 6th. Last week, Lionsgate released a new poster for the film – and now, they have unveiled a dozen character posters! You can check them out at the bottom of this article.

Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – ParabellumBallerina follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. As Eve’s story unfolds, she uses her marksmanship, cunning, and hand-to-hand combat skills to rip through a sect of the assassin order that destroyed an aspect of her life. There’s no holding back, and no amount of finely-fitted Kevlar will save you. lthough the spinoff will obviously be focused on Ana de Armas’ character, it will feature appearances from several characters from across the John Wick franchise, including Ian McShane as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, the late Lance Reddick as Charon, the Continental’s concierge, and Anjelica Huston as the Director, the head of the Ruska Roma. Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Bryne, Choi Soo-young, David Casteñeda, Robert Maaser, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and Norman Reedus are also in the cast. And yes, John Wick himself will also be showing up in the film.

We’ve previously heard that de Armas was quite excited to work with Keanu Reeves, and his appearance came at the perfect time during the production “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain,” she explained. “You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes. This is a whole movie, another level. But the other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing crazy stunts. And I’m like — I can’t complain anymore. Because he is doing it! He truly is the best.

Are you looking forward to Ballerina? Check out the character posters, then let us know by leaving a comment below. IGN provides information on each of the characters:

Assassins assemble! I hope you’ve said your prayers and left cookies out for the Baba Yaga. The latest poster for Lionsgate‘s John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, is gathering a murderers’ row of murderers for new promo art that pops with attitude and steely reserve.

The new print features Ana de Armas’s Eve with a gun primed and ready while stars like Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Norman Reedus, Angelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, the late and great Lance Reddick, and more flank her on all sides. The new Ballerina poster continues using a purple and pink aesthetic that gives “at the club” vibes with denizens of the Slovic mythology overtones.

Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. As Eve’s story unfolds, she uses her marksmanship, cunning, and hand-to-hand combat skills to rip through a sect of the assassin order that destroyed an aspect of her life. There’s no holding back, and no amount of finely-fitted Kevlar will save you.

Ana de Armas leads Ballerina, with Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Anne Parillaud, David Castañeda, Abraham Popoola, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves rounding out the cast

We’ve previously heard that de Armas was quite excited to work with Keanu Reeves, and his appearance came at the perfect time during the production “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. In the expanding universe of John Wick, there are a million ways to kill a man. And Ana de Armas is going to continue to prove it with June’s Ballerina.

Ana de Armas was recently challenged by Discussing Film to explain how Eve Macarro (the titular ballerina) she would take out her enemies with a series of items, ranging from ones she has used in the movie to fun product tie-ins. First up is an ice skate, which she actually does use to slash some bad guys from neck to leg. As for ballet shoes, de Armas thinks they’d be a proper choking tool, while plates are always good for a cartoonish smashing over the head and a Stanley cup goes right to a man’s — well, you know…Meanwhile, de Armas would go full John Wick with a pencil, jamming it into a man’s throat, an ear and pretty much anywhere else she could.

As for a John Wick Funko Pop!, Ana de Armas thinks her ballerina could do a number with one of those 4” suckers, going full Kevin McCallister. “You know, there’s nothing more painful than being barefoot and stepping on a toy on the floor. So I would definitely prep a room with hundreds of these all over.”

While we do still have many questions about how the upcoming John Wick 5 will work out considering how the fourth chapter ended, we can at least fill the time with anticipation for Ballerina, which has the official title of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (so I’ll probably just say, “One for Ballerina” at the theater).

This year’s CinemaCon attendees were treated to a special look at Ballerina. Fortunately, our own Chris Bumbray was there and had the following to say: “Visual style is very much like John Wick. New trailer starts with her shooting a bad guy in the balls…Some great looking action. Not based on physical strength; more agility…Also has a CRAZY fight where she takes on another woman with blades in a kitchen and they start smashing each other with broken plate after broken plate. The action is very much in the Chad Stahelski style…”

Will you be checking out Ballerina in theaters? What do you expect to see from Ana de Armas in such a high-profile action role?

While CinemaCon, on the whole, has been an absolute blast, one of the most memorable things to happen to me at the event was that I got to quickly interview Ana de Armas on the red carpet for The John Wick Experience, which is now open in Las Vegas. I was able to participate in this cool experience with my CinemaCon sidekick, Lance Vlcek (who’s been chronicling his own adventures at the Con on JoBlo Horror). Still, first, we were thrilled to be given time with the impossibly gorgeous de Armas, who chatted with us about her much-anticipated entry into the John Wick universe, Ballerina.

In it, she plays Eve Macarro, a ballerina assassin trained in the methods of the Ruska Roma. While on a mission of vengeance, she runs afoul of a certain Mr. Wick, with the film set between the third and fourth instalments. Based on what we saw, he seems to have been contracted to kill her. In our brief chat with de Armas, she clued us in on the style of action we should expect from Eve, which is much different from the style used by Wick, being more feral. Also, it’s important to note that de Armas and Reeves go way back to Eli Roth’s Knock Knock, with that film actually having been shot around the same time he was making John Wick, with her saying she could never have guessed it would turn into a global franchise she would one day be a part of.

We just saw a trailer for the movie a couple of weeks ago (that’s embedded above), and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray reports that the audience at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas was shown an extended preview of the film!

Bumbray writes: “Visual style is very much like John Wick. New trailer starts with her shooting a bad guy in the balls. Keanu Reeves is heavily featured, as is Ian McShane. Ana de Armas uses a Russian accent and sounds good. Some great looking action. Not based on physical strength; more agility. Looks like she has a major set piece fight with Daniel Bernhardt, who Reeves fought in John Wick (not the same character) and Bob Odenkirk fought in Nobody. Also has a CRAZY fight where she takes on another woman with blades in a kitchen and they start smashing each other with broken plate after broken plate. The action is very much in the Chad Stahelski style. As for Wick’s role – he’s sent to assassinate her and they have a fight. Seems like he’s actually an antagonist. Pretty neat.

The film follows Eve Macarro (de Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma criminal organization. Although the spinoff will obviously be focused on Ana de Armas’ character, it will feature appearances from several characters from across the John Wick franchise, including Ian McShane as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, the late Lance Reddick as Charon, the Continental’s concierge, and Anjelica Huston as the Director, the head of the Ruska Roma. Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Bryne, and Norman Reedus are also in the cast, playing undisclosed roles. And yes, John Wick himself will also be showing up in the film.

The story takes place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which explains how Keanu Reeves can appear as John Wick. We’ve previously heard that de Armas was quite excited to work with Reeves, and his appearance came at the perfect time during the production “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months.

Ana de Armas and Len Wiseman were both at CinemaCon and talked a bit about their work on the film. While de Armas only had three weeks to train for her action scenes in the James Bond film No Time to Die, she did four months of training for this film, going to the gym, doing stunt training, and practicing shooting. She also had to incorporate ballet into her character’s style of fighting. Ballet, while beautiful, is painful, so she felt that idea helped her find the character. Wiseman said that he feels the strength of the John Wick series is the cleverness and wit of the action, and he liked playing into the action tropes and then subverting them. He wanted people to say, “Holy shit, I did not expect that.” They also said the scene where characters are smashing each other with plates was hard to film as those plates basically break when you touch them. It was a mess.

Lionsgate has so much faith in the film, they’re probably going to start rolling out screenings to exhibitors much earlier than usual.

Hatten did his rewrite, Len Wiseman was hired to direct the film, Ana de Armas was cast as the title character, and now, Ballerina is ready to make its way out into the world, with a theatrical release scheduled for June 6th. With that date not far off, a new trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

2025 Movie Preview

With 2024 coming to a close, it’s time to start looking to the future for our cinema needs. What does the year hold in store for us cinephiles? While 2024 held some surprise hits, giant blockbusters, and small films that could, it’s looking like 2025 movie releases will hold more of the same. We can hope that the good fortune that Hollywood has brought us will continue into the new year and keep theater attendance up. Here’s our 2025 Movie Preview:

Den of Thieves: Pantera

Den Of Thieves: Pantera – January 10

Gerard Butler is back chasing down diamond thieves on the streets of Europe. He stumbles across the planning of the largest diamond heist ever planned. If you liked the first movie, then this will probably be more of the same. I’m personally happy that Gerard Butler is making some fun B-movie action films like back in the day. Plane was fun, and I’m excited to see these types of films at the theater again.

better man

Better Man – January 10

A biopic about UK pop star Robbie Williams as we see his childhood all the way through his superstardom. Robbie will be playing himself, but how do you do that without it being weird? What if you make it so he’s a chimp? Sure. With Pharrell releasing his biopic as a Lego movie and now Robbie Williams replacing himself with a CGI chimp it seems biopics are really trying to gain quirk appeal.

Back in Action, release, Netflix, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diax, first-look images

Back In Action – January 17

Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement and teaming up with Jamie Foxx for this Netflix original film. They play former CIA agents who are pulled back in when their identities are exposed. While I’m glad to see Diaz back on screen after a decade away, it’s odd that this generic spy action movie did it. Maybe just the idea of being in a movie with Jamie Foxx again was enough.

Michelle Yeoh, Star Trek: Section 31, first look

Star Trek: Section 31 – January 24

This direct to Paramount+ film is a spin off from Star Trek: Discovery starring Michelle Yeoh as her character Philippa Georgiou. This was originally planned as a series, but after COVID-19 delays, it was scrapped. Later they revived the idea for an original movie. Star Trek has always been a beloved franchise but with new movies going direct to streaming, will we ever see them return to the big screen?

bridget jones, isla fisher, jim broadbent, nico parker

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy – February 13

For the first time in nine years, Bridget Jones is back! Only this time, it will be on Peacock in the United States and then in theaters everywhere else in the world. Seems backwards but okay. Bridget Jones is now a single mom and trying to figure out how that works when you’re trying to get back into the dating pool. Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant return, along with some other familiar faces. Are we past the Bridget Jones fandom, or is there still more life in this franchise?

Captain America: Brave New World, Red Hulk

Captain America: Brave New World – February 14

After the events of Falcon And The Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie is donning the shield as the new Captain America. Harrison Ford steps in for the late William Hurt as the new President Ross, who has a big red secret to share. Marvel only had one release last summer, and it seemed to work really well for them. Let’s see if something without Hugh Jackman’s claws still registers for Marvel fans.

2025 Movie Preview

Mickey 17 – March 7

The new film from Bong Joon-ho sees Robert Pattinson sent on a space mission because he is seen as expendable. With technology, he can be regenerated if something goes wrong. This time, something goes wrong, and he begins to experience an existential crisis. This darkly comedic film looks like a good time as we see Mickey die in numerous different ways and still have to get up to go to work the next day.

black bag

Black Bag – March 14

Steven Soderberg’s spy thriller is coming out with no details on the plot. With a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan, you can bet lots of people will be interested in checking it out. Soderberg has always had an interesting take on just about any film he releases, and this will be no different.

Snow White

Snow White – March 21

Disney continues its trend of doing live-action remakes of its old animated films. This one caused a stir when it was announced, as people seemed divided on how to handle the seven dwarfs aspect of the film. Ultimately, the dwarves will be completely CGI. It will be interesting to see how this plays in a modern culture. Expect some new songs, and Gal Gadot will be playing the evil queen, which is inspired casting compared to the look of the original character.

2025 Movie Preview

A Minecraft Movie – April 4

With Super Mario Bros. and the Sonic movies being big hits, it’s no surprise that the hugely popular game Minecraft would be getting its own movie. Jack Black once again jumps on board to play Steve, the generic character most players take control of when booting up Minecraft. Jason Mamoa, Jennifer Coolidge, and Kate McKinnon round out the cast as random characters are pulled into the cubic world and need the help of an expert crafter to get home. Seems very Jumanji.

The Accountant 2, release date

The Accountant 2 – April 25

I don’t think anyone saw this sequel coming. In the first film, Ben Affleck played a neuro-divergent accountant who had a side job as a hitman. The film was a modest hit but nothing that would seem to warrant a sequel. Some other familiar faces from the first one return.

Thunderbolts*

Thunderbolts* – May 2

The second of Marvel’s offerings this year sees a bunch of cast-off characters from previous Marvel films being rounded up for a new agency. Yelena will be leading the team of previous supervillains who are now taking jobs for the government. Of course, this will be complicated by a lot of in-fighting and some unexpected speedbumps. The trailer makes this look like a lot of fun so here’s hoping it will give MCU fans some laughs while providing some great action scenes.

2025 Movie Preview

Lilo & Stitch – May 23

This is the second of Disney’s live-action remakes. Stitch crash-lands on Earth and is adopted by a young girl. Hijinks ensue as others come looking for him. The original had a great sense of humor, and the trailers showing Stitch invading other Disney properties were great. I have no idea if this will translate well into live-action, but kids will probably love it.

mission impossible

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – May 23

This was originally titled Dead Reckoning Part II, but after the last film underperformed, the title was quickly changed. It will continue the storyline from the last film, and we see Ethan Hunt trying to stop the deadly AI from causing worldwide chaos. Of course in order to shut it down, they have to make their way to the submarine that is crashed on the ocean floor.

Karate Kid: Legends

Karate Kid: Legends – May 30

The franchise returns to the big screen as we see Daniel from the original and Mr. Han from the 2010 “remake” join forces to mentor a new student. It’s a strange crossing of the streams which retcons the remake into being set in the same continuity. With Cobra Kai just ending when this hits theaters, will fans even care enough to go check it out? Fans of the original movie got their nostalgia fix with the series. Are there people who have nostalgia for the 2010 movie?

Ballerina

From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina – June 6

The spin-off of the John Wick films hits the big screen. We were introduced to the Ballerinas in John Wick 3. Now they get a film all their own while Keanu Reeves will still make an appearance since this is set during that time period. Ana de Armas takes over the role of Eve as she looks to get revenge on the people who killed her family. The intricate world of John Wick is fascinating to explore, and this gives us a chance to see even more of it.

2025 Movie Preview

Elio – June 13

An animated film from Disney that follows Elio. He’s a young space fanatic who gets tasked with saving the universe. They have been struggling to come up with animated films that really stick with audiences that aren’t already established Pixar properties. The shine of the early Pixar films has really dimmed after Disney bought them. Hopefully we can see Disney regain its footing with animated films like we used to have.

How to Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon – June 13

Dreamworks seems to be taking a cue from Disney and remaking some of their more popular animated properties. We’re getting another round of dragons as we see the first meeting of Hiccup and Toothless. Again. Not sure if this trend will ever end, but at least Dreamworks doesn’t have as deep of a catalog as Disney. When can we expect to see a live-action Kung Fu Panda?

Jurassic World Rebirth, Jurassic Park

Jurassic World: Rebirth – July 2

Scarlett Johanssen is taking the lead role this time around. No one seems to have learned any lesson about bringing dinosaurs back to life. This time it looks like explorers have to go in to get DNA samples from some prehistoric animals to help cure a disease. Universal really just wants to see if there is any juice left to squeeze out of this fruit. It may be time to let it sleep for a few decades before heading back in.

Superman

Superman – July 11

James Gunn takes his stab at the Man of Steel as the DC Universe reboots itself on-screen once again. Reports are that Gunn held an early screening for WB execs and that it did not go well. That could be internet fodder, but it doesn’t instill a lot of hope for the new version of the DCU. With the DC shows on the CW just wrapping up, we’ll have to see if Gunn’s Superman will connect with comic fans. The recent trailer seemed to gain a lot of views very quickly, so we at least know that fans are interested.

The Smurfs

The Smurfs Movie – July 18

Those magical little blue creatures will grace theater screens once again. This time, the film will be fully animated and musical. Paramount/Nickelodeon will take on the film, and it seems to be inspired by the popularity of the Troll movies. Rhianna will voice Smurfette and be joined by Nick Offerman, John Goodman, Kurt Russell, Dan Levy, and Hannah Waddingham.

fantastic four first steps

The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25

Marvel’s first family finally makes their way into the MCU. While they have been on-screen before as part of Fox’s Marvel movies, this time, we’ll see what the MCU has in store for the group. Marvel’s third film in six months will really test if audiences are in superhero fatigue or not. The early footage shown at Comicon seems fun, so hopefully, it will bring something new.

Liam Neeson, The Naked Gun remake

Naked Gun – August 1

Liam Neeson is hoping to try something drastically different than we’ve seen from him before. He has some big shoes to fill, as Leslie Nielsen based the whole second half of his career on the original Naked Gun. It will be hard to see anyone else trying to play that role. Plus, does that type of comedy have a place anymore?

Freakier Friday

Freakier Friday – August 8

Disney’s calendar of releases this year is crazy, as we see the reteaming of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The last film was a remake of an old Disney Classic. Now, twenty-one years later, we are getting a sequel. Expect more body-swapping jokes as the Lindsay Lohan resurgence seems to be taking shape. She’s been on an upswing lately, and hopefully, we can see her get a victory lap as she has matured.

Nobody

Nobody 2 – August 15

Somehow, Bob Odenkirk became an action star after starring in Nobody back in 2021. Now, we get to see some more middle-aged dad action as he returns for this sequel. The first movie really worked to show what appears to be an ordinary man who decides to get back into a life he left a long time ago. Now that we have seen him for what he really is, here’s hoping for more action and more Christopher Lloyd running around with a shotgun.

Downton Abbey a new era review

Downton Abbey 3 – September 12

The third film spin-off of the popular period drama. Many of the cast return to once again play their characters, showing the divide between the upper class and the working class. This drama captivated audiences when it first premiered, and both previous films have been big hits. It only makes sense to keep it going with another film.

Tron Ares

Tron: Ares – October 10

We’re traveling back into the world of Tron. Jeff Bridges is back, along with a slew of other familiar faces like Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto. This time, a program is sent from the digital world to the real world. Each Tron film so far has pushed the boundaries in terms of special effects and technical marvels. Let’s see what they come up with this time.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat 2 – October 24

We’re heading back to the arcade, so get your quarters ready. The reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise continues as our heroes are heading back to Outland to continue the fight for all existence. The last film was released during the pandemic, so a true gauge of the popularity is hard to judge, but audiences seem to have a positive response. During the initial film franchise run, the second entry pushed it off a cliff. We can hope they learned their lesson.

Now You See Me 3, release

Now You See Me 3 – November 14

Another entry into the magic mystery franchise is in the pipeline. All of our sleight-of-hand artists are returning, but no plot has been released so far. The previous movies have gained an audience through their unique use of stage magic and illusions to foil their adversaries. It is a fun and interesting way of doing a mystery based action film. If it lives up to the previous entries, then audiences should leave the theater happy.

Wicked: Part Two, Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good – November 21

The second part of the recent smash hit. Those who haven’t seen the Broadway play or read the book will get to see how the story ends. I expect more fantastic songs, some great visuals, and more Oz. We all need all the Oz we can get. Let’s all get ready to defy gravity once again.

2025 Movie Preview

Zootopia 2 – November 26

Disney has quite the release schedule this year, and we’re not even done yet. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are teaming up to solve a wild case that could change their entire lives. It will be fun to travel back into the world of Zootopia and see where the characters are. It looks like more of the same fun we had in the last film.

Zoe Saldaña, Avatar: Fire and Ash

Avatar: Fire And Ash – December 19

It’s time to head back to Pandora. Last time James Cameron dealt with water motifs and explored more of the world. Looks like we’ll be dealing with fire this time around. While the films seem to always be a wonder of motion capture and CGI, it would be great to see Cameron go back to other projects before his film career comes to an end. We can always hope.

Spongebob Squarepants

The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants – December 19

Hey Kids! SpongeBob is back with another movie. This time, he will explore the depths of the ocean to deal with the ghost of the Flying Dutchman. This franchise just keeps engaging generation after generation. At this point, The Simpsons might be about the only animated franchise that has lasted longer. As long as fans keep checking out the movies, the more they will keep making.

Lionsgate is bringing light in darkness, unveiling a character poster for Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro, the titular ballerina of the upcoming John Wick spin-off movie, adding to the already peak anticipation for this expansion. Following their CCXP presentation Sunday, Lionsgate also released a new extended look featurette examining the film.

As you can see on the poster, Eve is tatted up, with one notable phrase standing out above the rest: Lux in Tenebris, which is Latin for Light in Darkness. That might feel a little on the nose, but it does give us a better glimpse into her psyche – especially when she’s got a gun in her hand. The poster has incredible coloring to it, too, which plays off of the trailer quite nicely. Check it out:

Ballerina

In the trailer that was released in September, we saw a familiar face right away, Winston Scott (Ian McShane), who approaches a young Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) and offers to bring her to a ballerina school. Except these are no ordinary classes and soon she is prepped with: “To stop the assassin, you must become the assassin.” From there, it was cleverly set to Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” – but this ballerina isn’t exactly dancing in the sand, instead positioning herself as someone you don’t exactly want to tango with. And for those wondering, yes, Keanu Reeves does turn up in the trailer, with Eve stating, “You’re him. The one they call the Baba Yaga. How do I start doing what you do?”

While we will have to wait until June 6th for Ballerina to hit theaters, everything we’ve been given so far should hold us at least for a while. While the four John Wick movies have easily marked themselves as some of the best action movies to come out of the century – with plenty holding the argument that it’s one of the finest action franchises ever – we all got a little skeptical of the purpose of expanding once Peacock’s The Continental disappointed.

But based on the materials released up to this point, I’m expecting amazing things that fit well into the John Wick universe (hey, it’s right there in the clunky official title, too: From the World of John Wick: Ballerina). For the sake of understanding the narrative, Ballerina takes place between the events of 2019’s Parabellum and last year’s John Wick 4, hence the more battered John Wick.

In addition to Reeves and McShane, Ballerina will also bring back Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick, with the film marking his final posthumous appearance. It will also introduce Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus and Catalina Sandino Moreno into the mix.

Are you looking forward to Ballerina? Where do you see the John Wick franchise going from here?

ballerina

Update: This past week, it was being said by sources close to Ballerina that John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, reshot most of the film without the original director, Len Wiseman. The production is now saying those claims are inaccurate. According to them (who contacted us directly), director Len Wiseman led the additional photography on set in Budapest with producer Chad Stahelski there to help in the creation of action design on the new scenes that would enhance the film and create bigger action sequences. As per usual procedure on films, Ballerina‘s reshoots were not out of the ordinary, and the process had taken place in less than a month.

According to our source, Chad Stahelski’s involvement in building upon key action sequences was important to Wiseman; Stahelski has been an enormous champion of Wiseman from the onset of pre-production and Wiseman is equally appreciative of Stahelski’s support as one of the architects of the John Wick universe. However, during the additional shooting, Wiseman had suffered a serious health issue and was briefly hospitalized. Stahelski covered Wiseman’s scenes during that time. Wiseman would fully recover and had been back finishing the film alongside producer Chad Stahelski, Thunder Road, and the full filmmaking team

Original article:
News of the extensive reshoots for Ballerina has been at the forefront of the film’s hype since the John Wick spin-off had been delayed a year to revamp the footage that Lionsgate was not satisfied with. Earlier this year, Ian McShane, who is a staple of the Wick films and reprises his role as Winston for Ballerina, explained that the reshoots were so extensive that he even gave it the term, “new shoots.” “They’re new-shooting for Ballerina.” Then, he continues, “You know, it’s like, they’ve gotta protect the franchise. We did it about a year ago. And they’ve looked at it and Chad’s come in. And they wanna make it better cause they have to protect [the franchise].”

It was conveyed that Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski was brought in to work with Ballerina director Len Wiseman for the new shoots. Now, according to The Wrap, multiple sources have revealed that Stahelski had re-shot most of the movie and the former director was not at all present. The new shoots had reportedly taken place in Prague for two to three months without Wiseman. One of the sources explained, “Of course, Chad had to clean up someone else’s mess. Remember, this film is basically John Wick 3.5. This story happens before John Wick 4 and after that film, they can’t have a failure in anything ‘Wick’ related.”

The source added, “Chad is going to do Highlander, but cleaning up Ballerina pushed him by five months for sure.” Stahelski was set to work on Highlander with Henry Cavill, but the delay would free him up to accept a role in Voltron from Amazon MGM. That project goes into production later this year while it is being said that more work will be done to the Highlander script.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated situation for the studio Lionsgate, as the film Borderlands would also bring in Deadpool director Tim Miller to take over duties from former director Eli Roth. A lot is riding on Ballerina to save the studio from a disastrous 2024 after suffering flops like the aforementioned Borderlands as well as The Killer’s Game, The Crow remake and their major gamble with Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis.

The long wait to find out what director Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard, Lucifer) and Ana de Armas are cooking up with the John Wick spinoff Ballerina is finally ending. Lionsgate pulled the curtain back on a Ballerina teaser on Wednesday, paving the way for today’s release of a full trailer. Yesterday’s Ballerina teaser included a chilling rendition of Beethoven’s “Furelise” playing from a wind-up music box. As the camera slowly pans through a study crowded with books and fancy decor, a porcelain dancer spins beneath a glass dome with the words “Trailer Tomorrow” inscribed at the bottom of the keepsake. With today’s trailer, we finally get to see Ana de Armas in action as the title character – and yes, Keanu Reeves shows up for a John Wick cameo. The film has a release date of June 6, 2025.

Ballerina sees de Armas taking on the role of a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. As the film takes place in the John Wick universe, it will feature appearances from several franchise characters, including Ian McShane as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, the late Lance Reddick as Charon, the Continental’s concierge, and Anjelica Huston as the Director, the head of the Ruska Roma. Other cast members include Keanu Reeves, Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Mareno, David Byrne, David Castañeda, and more.

Ballerina

Anticipation for Ballerina is high, as fans who provided the studio with their smartphone information received a message about the trailer’s release yesterday. In the beginning, Ballerina was separate from the John Wick franchise, but filmmakers reworked the project to take place in the world of The Continental. To help preserve the John Wick franchise’s legacy, Ian McShane and Chad Stahelski boarded the upcoming film.

In November, reports of a script for a direct follow-up to John Wick: Chapter 4 started making the rounds. While John Wick: Chapter 4 has a definitive ending, the boogeyman is too iconic to slip into the shadows when more money waits in the wings. The franchise may move beyond Reeves’ Baba Yaga at some point, but that time is not now.

Halle Berry, John Wick, spinoff

Could Halle Berry take center stage in a John Wick spinoff? Berry played Sofia Al-Azwar in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Sofia is the manager of the Casablanca Continental who assists Wick when he’s labeled excommunicado. Although Sofia said that doing so could put her daughter in danger, we never find out what happened. While speaking with THR, Berry said she thought John Wick: Chapter 4 would pick up that thread, but it didn’t. The actress added that there have been talks of a Sofia spinoff, but if it’s going to happen, it should be sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I wish that would’ve happened, but that’s not the route they went. I thought that would’ve been a cool storyline. We talked about it, that’s for sure. We seeded it in John Wick: Chapter 3, and we’ve talked about a spinoff with Lionsgate that could potentially happen,” Berry said. “We need to do it sooner than later, but that could potentially happen. And I love that universe. I love John Wick and I loved that character, so you never know. We’ll see.” Berry added that she’d return for a John Wick spinoff (or TV series) in a heartbeat. “I loved that character, and I love Chad.

Our first John Wick spinoff movie will be Ballerina, which stars Ana de Armas as a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. Keanu Reeves will also make an appearance as John Wick. The film will also include Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Bryne, and Norman Reedus in undisclosed roles.

Halle Berry is currently starring in Never Let Go, a horror thriller that follows a mother (Berry) and her twin sons (Percy Daggs IV, Anthony B. Jenkins) as they’re tormented by a malicious spirit. Needing to stay connected at all times – even tethering themselves with ropes – they cling to one another, urging each other to never let go. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival. There are three generally accepted rules for living a long and happy life. 1) You don’t spit into the wind. That’s really just common sense. 2) You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. 3) By God, if you really want to live a long life, you 100%, not under any circumstances, for any reason, F*ck with John Wick’s dog. We have all learned nothing good happens from making John Wick angry. While we’ve already had one spin-off of the successful franchise, the upcoming film Ballerina promises to take us even further into the crazy underworld of one of the most fascinating franchises to emerge in a long time.

John Wick: Chapter 4 shut a few chapters for the franchise, but it's opened up plenty of new ones - where will the franchise go from here?

Where Did Ballerina Come From?

This film began life way back in 2017 as a stand-alone film. Shay Hatten wrote an action script with a female lead called Ballerina. The lead would be a ballerina assassin who goes on a revenge killing spree. Lionsgate picked up the script and decided to bring Hatten on board to rewrite it to make it part of the John Wick universe.

To give it a proper jumping-off point, the ballerina program was shown in John Wick 3, with Anjelica Huston leading the group as The Director. This was used to draw in the audience and make them curious about this other organization. The film was officially pushed forward as Len Wiseman (Underworld) was brought on to serve as director.

Anjelica Huston, Ballerina, Ana de Armas, John Wick

What’s It About?

From the little information available about the film, it seems to be a revenge film set within the John Wick universe. Eve Macarro is our title ballerina who this ruthless organization is training. She plans to use these newly acquired skills to hunt down the people responsible for murdering her family. Nothing quells the soul quite like good old bloody revenge. If the action scenes in the previous Wick films are anything to go by, we’re in for a wild ride.

Ana de Armas, Ballerina, John Wick, Keanu Reeves

Who’s In It?

Once the script was set, it was time to find some actors. Even before Len Wiseman joined the project, it was thought that Lady Gaga might be brought in for the lead role. Once Wiseman was on the project, it was said they were using actress Chloë Grace Moretz as the template for what they were looking for. Her turn in Kick-Ass as Hit Girl had set her up as a badass fighter, and the studio wanted someone similar.

Ana de Armas

Ana de Armas

In 2022, it was announced that Armas had secured the lead role and would lead this new hopeful franchise. The character of Eve had a small cameo in John Wick 3 but was played by ballerina Unity Phelan. The filmmakers decided to recast her with someone who had more experience. Armas entered negotiations, and with her strong turn in the last James Bond film, it’s easy to see why they chose her.

Anjelica Huston

Anjelica Huston

The legendary actress returns in her role as the Director. This shady organization seems in line with the Black Widow program we saw in the MCU. They take young women and teach them how to become the perfect assassins. Having Huston in this role is excellent and gives it a nice balance with Ian McShane’s character from the Wick movies.

Norman Reedus Daryl

Norman Reedus

While Reedus has had major roles in films like The Boondock Saints and Blade II, he gained popularity in The Walking Dead as Daryl Dixon. He hasn’t done many film roles since, but this is one of his highest-profile roles since the end of the main Walking Dead series. Much hasn’t been released about his role, but it is thought he could be Rooney’s main physical adversary throughout the film.

Hereditary

Gabriel Byrne

Legendary actor Gabriel Byrne will lend his talents as the man behind everything that has gone wrong in Rooney’s life. He brings a grand presence to everything he’s in and will be great in this role. Looking at his range from movies like The Usual Suspects, End of Days, and Hereditary, you know he will bring something unique to the character.

ballerina keanu reeves lance reddick cameos

Returning Characters

Ballerina will be set between John Wick 3 and 4, allowing a few familiar characters to appear even if they are no longer living in the proper series. Ian McShane will be back as the head of the Continental Hotel. Lance Reddick will be seen in his last on-screen role after his sudden death last year. Of course, the biggest appearance will be Keanu Reeves dropping in as John Wick one more time. This is possible due to the film being set before the events of John Wick 4 since we apparently saw his death.

Ian McShane

When Can We See It?

Well, we were originally supposed to see it in June of this year. In February, it was announced that the film would be pushed back by a whole year to June 6, 2025. The reasoning was said to be that they had devised some new action scenes that they wanted to include. Ian McShane, on the other hand, said that after seeing the first cut of the film, they brought in Wick mainstay and Ballerina producer Chad Stahelski to redo large parts of the film to “protect the franchise.” With this extra year, it looks like they were hoping to shore up any weak points. Let’s hope it’s worth it, as extensive re-shoots are not usually seen as a good thing.

Are you excited to see Ballerina when it opens in theaters next summer? Let us know in the comments.

The John Wick spin-off Ballerina will finally be unveiling footage to the world after extended reshoots, according to the film’s star, Ana De Armas. De Armas is currently promoting her upcoming Ron Howard film Eden at TIFF when she spoke with Collider. She teases the action film, which is set to feature cameos by Keanu Reeves and Lance Reddick. De Armas explained,

All we did in those reshoots had to be there. We got amazing footage. It’s really spectacular. A trailer is coming out soon, I’ve been told. I saw it, and it’s beautiful. I’m very proud of it. It’s really exciting. It’s dangerous, it’s sexy, it’s very John Wick. I think people are going to be surprised. I’m biased. Of course, I like the movie, but I think it’s really cool. It’s going to be amazing.”

There was a trailer that was already showcased at CinemaCon this past Spring. The trailer that was shown featured De Armas doing MMA and gunplay, much like Keanu Reeves in the Wick films. However, it is noted that the fight sequences in Ballerina are very different from the Wick movies. Here, they look “more feral and less polished.” The movie is also said to be “insanely violent.” Although it is known that Reeves has a cameo, the preview teases his appearance as a trailer stinger.

The spin-off had a long journey. First, it wasn’t related to the John Wick franchise at all, then it was rewritten to take place in the world of The Continental. The movie would also undergo reshoots or “new shoots” according to Wick franchise star Ian McShane. McShane revealed that Chad Stahelski was brought in to “protect the franchise.” In an interview, he stated, “You know, it’s like, they’ve gotta protect the franchise. We did it about a year ago. And they’ve looked at it and Chad’s come in. And they wanna make it better cause they have to protect [the franchise].”

Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. The John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, has unloaded footage all over the audience at Liongate’s panel at CinemaCon. According to our own Chris Bumbray, who was in attendance, the spin-off takes place between Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. They also conveyed that the film was tracking so well that the studio gave director Len Wiseman and Wick series director Chad Stahelski more money in the budget to create additional massive action sequences.

The trailer that was shown showcased De Armas doing MMA and gunplay, much like Keanu Reeves in the Wick films. Sony is seemingly asking Lionsgate, “Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do now that Bad Boys 4 is coming for you?” It was recently reported that the John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, will be undergoing extensive reshoots, which will push the release date back from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. According to John Wick star Ian McShane, “They’re new-shooting for Ballerina. You know, it’s like, they’ve gotta protect the franchise. […] And they wanna make it better cause they have to protect [the franchise].” However, Lionsgate, in need of a summer release, would move The Crow reboot, which comes from filmmaker Rupert Sanders and stars Bill Skarsgård, into Ballerina‘s original release date.

Deadline now reports that Sony is gunning for the same release date for their Will Smith and Martin Lawrence buddy-cop action-comedy sequel. Bad Boys 4 was originally slated for a premiere on June 14, but after the news of The Crow being moved up, they decided to release the film a week earlier on June 7 to go toe-to-toe with Lionsgate. Bad Boys 4, which is still the working title, is a higher-budgeted, higher-profile summer release that will be getting IMAX and other premium screen showings. It follows two Michael Bay-directed entries and a recent third film that drove its worldwide box office total to $841 million at the global box office. The action sequel is assumed to be big enough to win out its weekend release, so moving up to become a direct competitor to a movie like The Crow is a curious move.

Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have returned to helm the film after their Batgirl debacle. This latest installment in the series comes from a screenplay by Chris Bremner. The producers on Bad Boys 4 include Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith and Doug Belgrad. Executive producers on board for this entry are Lawrence, James Lassiter, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone.

The plot for Bad Boys 4 has not yet been officially revealed. However, it would most likely see Mike and Marcus working on a new case with AMMO with a side-plot of Mike mending/working on his relationship with his son. Fans will remember that the last movie ended with Mike and Marcus being put in charge of AMMO with Mike visiting his son, Armando, in prison and offering him a chance at redemption, so this plot would follow up on those loose ends. Again, this is all speculation, but it would be odd for the previous movie to give such heavy leads and them completely dismiss them.

It’s not uncommon for films to have reshoots when the initial production wraps. Certain scenes would need more energy, more clarity, a better location, etc. However, it was recently reported that the John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, is being pushed back an entire year so that the film can undergo some big reshoots. After the massive success of John Wick: Chapter 4 brought the franchise into the billion-dollar club, Lionsgate is finding ways to continue the series with or without Keanu Reeves since Mr. Wick may or may not finally be at rest.

Ian McShane, who plays Winston in the films, recently appeared on BBC’s The One Show and spoke candidly about the studio bringing in Wick series director Chad Stahelski after they weren’t satisfied with the original cut. McShane says that the movie isn’t undergoing reshoots but having new shoots. He explains, “They’re new-shooting for Ballerina.” Then, he continues, “You know, it’s like, they’ve gotta protect the franchise. We did it about a year ago. And they’ve looked at it and Chad’s come in. And they wanna make it better cause they have to protect [the franchise].”

One of the hosts would then reference the TV prequel series, The Continental, which follows Winston’s early years at the famed assassin hotel. McShane was quick to silence him, then revealed how nobody on Wick was consulted about the show, “They never asked anybody about it. They just went and did it. Just went and did it. Somebody asked Keanu and me about it. We both went, ‘I don’t know. Nobody ever asked us about it.'”

Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. Ballerina, release date, The Crow reboot

If you were looking forward to seeing Ana de Armas kick some ass in the upcoming John Wick spinoff, I’ve got some bad news. Lionsgate announced today that Ballerina will be pushed back a full year, with the release date moving from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025.

Deadline reports that the release date push will give Ballerina the opportunity to do a few reshoots. John Wick architect Chad Stahelski will be working with director Len Wiseman on “additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.

Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. The film will also include Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Bryne, and Norman Reedus in unknown roles.

Ballerina‘s old release date was quickly filled by Rupert Sanders’ upcoming reboot of The Crow, a movie which I still can’t believe actually got made after years of false starts and development hell, but will now be hitting theaters on June 7th. The modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr stars Bill Skarsgård in the title role. “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them,” reads the official synopsis. “Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.” The film also stars Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jodran Bolger.

John Wick: Chapter 4 may have been presented somewhat as the conclusion of the story, but it’s also the entry that put the franchise in the billion-dollar club. Lionsgate is now jumping at the chance to do more Wick sequels with the series’ star Keanu Reeves continuing the role. This is despite the ending of the film having what can be interpreted as the death of John Wick. However, the door is cracked open for an opportunity to bring Keanu back with an easy explanation should The Matrix star and the filmmakers choose to come back for more knuckles, kicks and bullets.

Basil Iwanyk, a producer on the franchise, reveals that Reeves was begging for there to be a definite conclusion to his character so that he may finally rest (which would also serve as a double meaning for Keanu doing his own stunts for four movies). Iwanyk spoke with Collider to promote the upcoming Wick prequel series, The Continental, when he said, “After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally. By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it. He was like, ‘I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie.’ We were like, ‘You know, we’ll leave a 10% little opening.'”

Fans will be able to see Keanu back in the role sooner than expected, as he’s set to make a cameo appearance along with the late Lance Reddick in the coming spin-off of the Wick films, Ballerina. In Ballerina, Ana De Armas plays a character who gets caught up in the underground world with Continental assassins and Reeves is set to appear since the story takes place before John Wick: Chapter 4.

Although Ballerina is on the horizon, The Continental is set to premiere, and there is talk of a spin-off with Donnie Yen’s character, Iwanyk says people still want more John Wick, “We all want another John Wick. We don’t know what it looks like and when it will happen, but we love each other and we love this world. It’s gonna be all hands to try to figure it out. Have we figured it out? No. And if we can’t figure it out, will there be one? No, of course not. No one is gonna try to just jam it for the sake of jamming it.”

The Continental is set to stream on Peacock on September 22.

Regardless of the interpretation of the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4, the film serves as a fitting ending for the contract killer and his quest for peace. While movie franchises tend to make an initial run as a trilogy, as the three-movie structure perfectly encapsulates the beginning, middle and end of a story arc, back when John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was released, it surprisingly sported a cliffhanger ending that seemingly set up for a finale. Parabellum would feature an end sequence at the iconic series location of The Continental, which naturally felt like the perfect thematic location for a finale, but the ultimate conclusion was not satisfying for star Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski.

According to ScreenRant, Reeves and Stahelski were so dissatisfied with the ending that they were motivated to finish it conclusively with Chapter 4. Stahelski explained in Empire, “We didn’t feel like we had done our best. We both felt like we could have ended the series better. We didn’t feel like we stuck the landing, and that’s a s****y feeling. Because we love the character, we love working together, we love the world. I said, ‘I’d be p***ed if that’s how they ended the whole series. I’d be p***ed at the director.’ And I had just read this treatise on samurai etiquette called Hagakure, the art of the way of dying. And we’re like, ‘Yeah, he’s got to die. And we got to come up with the coolest way to make that happen. We’ve got to make it all about, ‘you can only [have] a good death if you had a good life’.’ That’s the first line we wrote on a napkin in Japan, three years out. We wrote the movie backwards off that one thing.”

Of course, John Wick: Chapter 4 finally let the character rest, but after a screening with a more obvious ending, the test audience persuaded the filmmakers to leave it more ambiguous. And now that the John Wick movies have become a billion-dollar franchise, the film’s studio Lionsgate is begging for more with Keanu in tow. Reeves, as of now, has one more appearance coming up for the character, as Baba Yaga will also make a cameo in the spin-off, Ballerina, which stars Ana De Armas.

Stahelski and Reeves obviously love the character, and although Stahelski listed off names of actors he’d love to work with on a follow-up, the only real plans he has going forward is an extended director’s cut of Chapter 4 that is being planned for a release.

Ana de Armas, Ballerina, John Wick, Keanu Reeves, release date

It will be a while before Lionsgate‘s John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, dances into cinemas. The studio announced on Tuesday that the action thrill ride starring Ana de Armas will dance into theaters on June 7, 2024. Len Wiseman (Underworld) directs from a script by Shay Hatten (Army of the DeadDay ShiftJohn Wick: Chapter 4). Based on characters created by Derek Kolstad, Ballerina expands the John Wick universe as Ana de Armas stars as an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. The Ballerina release date is the latest step toward expanding the John Wick universe, and we couldn’t be more psyched!

Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves star alongside Ana de Armas in the action-packed spinoff. Reports say that the project started as a “totally separate, original action spec” and something that was “even more over-the-top than John Wick. Eventually, the filmmakers conceived of a way to marry it into the Wick universe.

Speaking with TotalFilm in February, Ana de Armas expressed excitement about working alongside Reeves on the film. “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain. You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. He truly is the best.”

“Ian [McShane] has a little bit more to do, and John Wick is an extended cameo. He [McShane] shot for about a week. Lance [Reddick] shot for a day. Those were last minute adds in a way, too,” producer Erica Lee told Collider about the John Wick cast appearances in Ballerina.

What do you think about the Ballerina release date? Does it feel like an eternity until the movie hits theaters? Considering John Wick: Chapter 4 is still in theaters, perhaps the timing is perfect. It’s challenging not to want more of the John Wick universe right now, but good things come to those who wait.

As the John Wick franchise train continues to move with Lionsgate pleading for a fifth with Keanu Reeves, fans can look forward to a couple of extensions to the Wick world happening sooner than later. One such project is the prequel centering around The Continental which will showcase a younger version of the Ian McShane character, Winston. There is also the spin-off, Ballerina, which will star Ana De Armas and is said to be taking place between John Wicks Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4.

It has been reported that Wick stars Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane, have reprised their roles in cameos on the upcoming film. The spin-off is directed by Len Wiseman of Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard, and the Total Recall remake. Producer of the franchise, Erica Lee, talks to Collider about the John Wick cast appearances in Ballerina.

Lee explains, “Ian has a little bit more to do, and John Wick is an extended cameo. He shot for about a week. Lance shot for a day. Those were last minute adds in a way, too.”

Keanu has been complimentary of De Armas’ dedication to the training and filming of her action scenes. And Armas was equally excited to work with Reeves, “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain. You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes. This is a whole movie, another level. John Wick: Chapter 4 is flooring audiences harder than Keanu and Donnie have to a horde of enemies. Even though this entry already sports a lengthy running time, plus the revelation that the original cut was over four hours long, series director Chad Stahelski reveals that he was pitched to do a Chapter 4 and a Chapter 5 together, filming back-to-back. ScreenRant gives the lowdown on the director’s decision to stick with the one chapter and what the franchise can potentially expand into in the future.

Stahelski reveals that after Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Lionsgate originally approached him with the idea of filming the next two sequels back-to-back and he turned that idea down. “Not to cause any weird clickbait or anything like that, the studio first came to us and went, ‘Look, we would like to explore the option of doing 4 and 5 together.’ And the daunting-ness of that at first is a little intimidating, [but] it’s also incredibly flattering. In an industry where everyone’s trying to get something made, and you’re trying to get your wacky ideas made and somebody to listen and give them a shot, to have people come to you and go, ‘Please make more of what you do?’ I can’t thank Lionsgate enough for even presenting that opportunity.”

Then, he continues, “I’ve been a part of projects that have done two films together at once and, [at least] for me, I don’t know how to do it. Creatively, I don’t know how to get my head around that. I think the greatest part is that, after each John Wick, I took two years off to go live and get better; to travel, to read more, and to get better. I don’t know how to do a movie back-to-back and get better for the second one. You’d see John Wick 4 and then John Wick 4B, right? Same camera, same colors, same action, same style of choreography, same storylines. I had no time to be influenced by life and bring life back in, so I just thought it was kind of a cheat.”

After Chapter 4 featured some amazing additions to the cast, when thinking about who he’d love to work with in a possible sequel, Stahelski throws out a number of names, including Cillian Murphy, Jason Momoa, Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, as well as some obvious wishlist choices, like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sylvester Stallone, and Clint Eastwood.

While there are already extensions, which include Ballerina and The Continental, making their way to audiences, producer Erica Lee also thought about expanding on Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King and the new character of Akira. “I think the world of the Bowery King and the Bowery is something that we’re really interested in exploring more of. He sort of runs the underground, and it’s such an interesting world. How does he get the guns and the boats? He shows up everywhere.” She then mentions an Akira spin-off as newcomer Rina Sawayama made a big impression on audiences. “The character of Akira really pops in the movie, and I’d love to sort of see some further adventures with her character.”

If you didn’t get enough of Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in Knives Out and The Gray Man, the pair have reunited for Ghosted, a romantic action-comedy coming to Apple TV+ next month. The streaming service has released a new trailer for Ghosted, which begins with all the familiar trappings of a romantic comedy before revealing its action-packed side.

Ghosted follows salt-of-the-earth Cole (Chris Evans) as he falls head over heels for enigmatic Sadie (Ana de Armas) — but then makes the shocking discovery that she’s a secret agent. Before they can decide on a second date, Cole and Sadie are swept away on an international adventure to save the world. In addition to Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, Ghosted also stars Adrien Brody, Mike Moh, Amy Sedaris, and Tate Donovan. Ghosted was directed by Dexter Fletcher from a script by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. When the project was first announced, Ghosted was set to star Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, but Johansson wound up exiting due to scheduling conflicts, and Ana de Armas stepped in to replace her.

Ghosted isn’t the only action movie Ana de Armas has on her slate, as she’s also starring in Ballerina, a John Wick spinoff movie. The film finds Armas playing a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. Ana de Armas provided an update on Ballerina two months ago. “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months,” she said. “We still have one more month to go. Because he is doing it!“ In addition to Keanu Reeves, other familiar faces from the John Wick Universe who will be appearing in the spinoff include Ian McShane as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, Lance Reddick as Charon, the Continental’s concierge, and Anjelica Huston as the Director, the head of the Ruska Roma.

What did you think of the Ghosted trailer? Will you be watching when it debuts on Apple TV+ on April 21st?

John Wick: Chapter 4 will be gracing movie theaters next month, and the beloved star, Keanu Reeves, has been hyping up the next level action as his most physically demanding yet, calling the movie “banana cakes.” The Wick world is seeing some extension with a Continental series prequel and the Ana De Armas spin-off, Ballerina. It was announced that Wick himself is set to make an appearance, and MovieWeb is reporting on Keanu’s excitement to see Ana De Armas wreak some havoc.

In the latest issue of TotalFilm, the cover story is dedicated to the upcoming John Wick, and as Keanu sits with the magazine, he talks a bit about his involvement with Ballerina, which is set to take place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4. Reeves explains, “[The director Len Wiseman] has a vision, but is also embracing, affectionately, the world of John Wick … there’s a reason for [John] to be in Ballerina; it’s very organic. And working with Ana was great. She really loves action, and she’s really good at it.”

Armas is fully embracing her experience with the action as something she’s barely done before. The Ballerina star was equally happy to work with Reeves on the film. “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain. You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes. This is a whole movie, another level. Armas has been able to preview to audiences what she’s able to bring to the franchise when she appeared in the latest James Bond outing, No Time to Die, in a small role where she effectively assisted Bond in taking down multiple foes with both gunplay and fisticuffs.

Reports say that the project started out as a “totally separate, original action spec” and something that was “even more over-the-top than John Wickand eventually the filmmakers conceived of a way to marry it into the Wick universe.

Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as a young woman with killer skills who sets out to get revenge when hitmen kill her family. As the film takes place in the John Wick universe, it will feature appearances from several franchise characters, most notably John Wick himself. We’ve known that Keanu Reeves will have a part to play in Ballerina since November, and although it isn’t clear just how big his role will be, it seems he will have at least one action sequence in the movie.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ana de Armas provided an update on Ballerina. “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months,” she said. “We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain. My body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. The film will also include Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Bryne, and Norman Reedus in unknown roles. Len Wiseman is directing from a script by Shay Hatten.

Ballerina isn’t the only John Wick-related project in the works, as a younger version of Ian McShane’s character will also be featured in The Continental, a three-night special-event TV series that will explore “the origin behind the hotel-for-assassins, a centerpiece of the John Wick universe, through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) who is dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. I hope Gabriel Byrne likes ballet because he’s the latest actor to join Ana de Armas for the John Wick spinoff, Ballerina. At the start, Ballerina was a twinkle in the eye of John Wick fans worldwide. No one ever imagined the project would explode into a full-on spinoff starring some of Hollywood’s greatest players. Famous for starring in The Usual SuspectsMiller’s CrossingHereditaryCool World, and much more, Byrne is a seasoned film industry vet who brings charisma and gravitas to every role.

Byrne is one of many stars joining Ana de Armas for the film, including Keanu Reeves (John WickThe Matrix), Norman Reedus (The Walking DeadBoondock Saints), Anjelica Huston (The Addams FamilyThe Witches), Ian McShane (Deadwood, American Gods), Lance Reddick (Resident EvilWhite House Down), and Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of GraceA Most Violent Year).

Len Wiseman (UnderworldTotal Recall) directs from a script by Shay Hatten (Army of the DeadDay Shift). Ballerina focuses on a young woman (Ana de Armas) with killer skills who sets out for revenge when assassins kill her family. You know, that old chestnut.

Last month, Ballerina producer Erica Lee told The Hollywood Reporter, “The idea of Ballerina was formed around the scenes with Anjelica in John Wick 3. Anjelica Huston is an icon and is nothing less than Hollywood royalty. The world of Wick is always made richer by her commanding screen presence.”

Meanwhile, John Wick: Chapter 4 will debut in theaters on March 24, 2023. It’s a great time to be a John Wick fan. Enjoy the ride, folks!
