Idris Elba replaces Bradley Cooper as the lead in Deeper

Idris Elba

A couple years ago, we were keeping track of a project called DEEPER, a supernatural thriller scripted by Max Landis that was looking like it was going to be directed by Kornel Mundruczo and star Bradley Cooper and Gal Gadot. Mundruczo, Cooper, and Gadot all drifted away from the project over time, so now the team is getting rebuilt.

ADRIFT director Baltasar Kormakur is now attached to bring Landis's story to the screen, and he has found an actor who is ready to take over the role that was once going to be Cooper's.

Idris Elba, who recently starred in the Stephen King-inspired film THE DARK TOWER and whose performance in the television series Luther earned him a lot of Golden Globes and Emmy attention, is currently in negotiations to star in DEEPER. The character he'll be playing is

a disgraced astronaut who is on a deep-sea dive exploring a newly discovered trench but soon finds himself confronted by a sinister and dangerous force.

If you lose Bradley Cooper, gaining Idris Elba as his replacement is certainly not a step down.

Landis is producing DEEPER with David S. Goyer, Kevin Turen, Russell Ackerman, and John Schoenfelder.

We'll keep you updated as this new version of the project continues moving forward. Hopefully it will actually make it into production this time.

Elba plays the villain in the upcoming FAST & FURIOUS spin-off HOBBS AND SHAW
