Deadline reports that prolific producer Ryan Murphy is setting up his next project at FX, a series adaptation of Bret Easton EllisThe Shards starring Kaia Gerber (American Horror Story).

The series will be directed by Max Winkler, who has worked on many Muprhy projects. He’s helmed episodes of American Horror Story, American Horror Stories, The Watcher, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and Grotesquerie.

The Shards is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age tale which follows a 17-year-old version of Ellis during his final year at Buckley prep school. When the enigmatic new student Robert Mallory arrives on campus, Ellis suspects he might be connected to the nearby serial killer known as The Trawler. The story was initially released on Ellis’ Patreon in 2020 as a serialized audiobook, but was published as a novel in 2023.

The Shards was previously in development at HBO, with Luca Guadagnino (Challengers) and Kristoffer Borgli (Dream Scenario) each considering directing the project. There were even rumblings that Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) was being eyed to star, but it ultimately fell apart due to creative differences.

We were invested in The Shards at HBO, from January to September, until we parted ways, and it became an extremely frustrating experience, and what we thought we were able to do we were told that we can’t,” Ellis said (via World of Reel). “The show that we sold, through whatever machinations were going through at Warners Bros, was sadly not going to be that show anymore.

Ellis added that the project had started to move in a direction he didn’t approve of. “I didn’t just want to get the thing made, I also wanted it to be good,” he said. “I wanted it to be what my version of good was. This had all been promised to me when we made the deal, and it was just not happening. I really felt like eight months of the year had been wasted. I was disappointed and bitter. I said never again. I’m never going to do this again.

Variety reports that a reboot of 7th Heaven is in the early stages of development at CBS Studios. Jessica Biel, who starred in the original series as Mary Camden, will executive produce the reboot through her Iron Ocean banner alongside Michelle Purple.

The original series centers on Reverend Eric Camden, a Protestant minister in the fictional town of Glen Oak, California, and his wife Annie, as they navigate the challenges and drama of raising their seven children, whose ages span from infancy to adulthood—with some having families of their own. The series spanned 11 seasons (10 on The WB and one on The CW) with 243 episodes. It was also one of the final shows produced by Aaron Spelling before his death in 2006.

Sources tell Variety that the 7th Heaven reboot “would focus on a diverse family, and that none of the original cast members would appear.” It’s still early days, so no network or streamer is attached. Anthony Sparks (Queen Sugar) will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the reboot.

Of course, it’s hard to talk about the family-friendly series without mentioning the Stephen Collins controversy. The actor starred in 7th Heaven as Reverend Camden, but that wholesome image wasn’t entirely accurate. In 2014, Collins admitted to “inappropriate sexual conduct with three female minors.” Audio from a marriage counselling session between Collins and Faye Grant (now his ex-wife) had leaked, and Collins thought he could get ahead of the scandal by explaining his actions.

Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman, who played Lucy, Simon and Ruthie on 7th Heaven, addressed the controversy last year during their rewatch podcast. “We want you to know that we see all of your comments and we know how excited you all are for the rewatch, but before we get into that we do think it’s important that we say something about Stephen Collins,” the actors said. “All forms of abuse, sexual abuse of any kind, it’s inexcusable. And victims of abuse need to be shown compassion and they should be given support.

They continued, “We do not excuse or condone his behavior. Our hope for this podcast is to reconnect with you, our fans, to relive some 90s nostalgia and to share our fondest memories of 7th Heaven.

Although 7th Heaven remains a popular show for those who grew up with it, I imagine that Collins’ actions have tainted it for some. A reboot would be a good way to keep the series alive for a new generation.

Are you down for a 7th Heaven reboot?

The Bondsman canceled after one season; Kevin Bacon reacts https://www.joblo.com/kevin-bacon-the-bondsman-canceled/ https://www.joblo.com/kevin-bacon-the-bondsman-canceled/#respond Mon, 19 May 2025 15:25:52 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=841446 The Bondsman, which starred Kevin Bacon as a bounty hunter tied in with demons, has been canceled over at Amazon.

The post The Bondsman canceled after one season; Kevin Bacon reacts appeared first on JoBlo.

]]>
The Kevin Bacon-starring The Bondsman will not be bailed out, having been canceled after just one season at Prime Video.

The supernatural action series from Blumhouse Television had a loyal fanbase, who were left with a completely unfinished story. The season one (and, it would turn out, series) finale set up the intended second nicely, but sadly, those fans will never get to see how the story could have progressed. We also really dug the season, with our own Alex Maidy giving it an 8/10 and saying it was one of the most fun horror series he’s come across in a while.

With Kevin Bacon in the lead and the Blumhouse brand stamped on it, you’d think The Bondsman would have made it through a few seasons. But let’s face it, Amazon didn’t exactly do a great job of promoting it. That’s no doubt one of the biggest factors in its cancellation; how can you let a show breathe and find its life (so to speak) if you’re not going to hit the ads?

Here’s what Bacon himself had to say about it on social media:

For those who have yet to check out The Bondsman, it follows “Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter who’s back from the dead after being resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell. By chasing down those demons with the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned — which pushes him to seek a second chance at life, love, and country music.” The series released on April 3rd on the streamer.

When we interviewed a number of people involved with The Bondsman last month for the release — including Bacon, writer Eric Oleson and co-star Maxwell Jenkins — they were all excited for how the series had come together and what made it stand out. Unfortunately, they won’t be promoting anything beyond those eight episodes. This is especially a drag because Bacon does so well on TV; yet, he hasn’t had a couple of multi-season series such as City on a Hill and The Following.

Did you watch The Bondsman? Why do you think it didn’t work out?

Netflix brings the sunny days as it welcomes new Sesame Street episodes https://www.joblo.com/netflix-sesame-street/ https://www.joblo.com/netflix-sesame-street/#respond Mon, 19 May 2025 14:55:34 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=841571 The streaming giant is partnering with PBS for a new era of learning, with fresh episodes and new segments becoming available everywhere.

The post Netflix brings the sunny days as it welcomes new Sesame Street episodes appeared first on JoBlo.

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street? Now, it’s through Netflix. The streamer is announcing that the company now has exclusive worldwide premiere rights of the coveted children’s television learning program, and episodes will be available day-and-date on PBS stations in the U.S. and across PBS KIDS digital platforms. Those who fear that the show will completely migrate over to Netflix will be pleased to know that Sesame Street will continue to be available on the PBS KIDS network, as well as across their digital video and games platforms, continuing its 50+ year legacy of using the power of public television to bring critical early learning to children across the country for free.

This year, Netflix will be streaming Sesame Street’s all-new, reimagined 56th season — plus 90 hours of previous episodes — available to audiences worldwide. The official description from Netflix reads, “The new season will feature fresh format changes and the return of fan-favorite segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. Expect new ways to play along as Cookie Monster opens his very own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street, and explore Abby’s Fairy Garden, a home to surprising and delightful magical creatures. Additionally, episodes will now center on one 11-minute story, allowing for even more character-driven humor and heart.”

The upcoming reimagined 56th season on Netflix will include the following format changes and segment additions:

 • New ways to play along. Cookie Monster opens his very own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street. Will there be cookie chaos or a sweet treat with every adventure? Abby’s Fairy Garden is home to surprising and delightful magical creatures. What could possibly go wrong when Abby helps care for them?
 • To-camera moments. The characters speak directly to the viewers and invite them into the action—capturing emotions and interactions.
 • Animation overlays that highlight music, action, humor, and important story moments while adding visual excitement. Visual effects like wand sparkles, bubbles, and confetti will add a touch of anything-can-happen magic to the storytelling.
 • One 11-minute story. The longer format provides the opportunity to tell stories with even more character-driven humor and heart.
 • A new animated segment, Tales from 123 that takes viewers INSIDE the most famous apartment building in the world where they can discover the wacky and whimsical building that Elmo, Cookie Monster, and friends call home.
 • The return of fan-favorite episodes of Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck.

Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings are on board as executive producers for the production company, Sesame Workshop. Additionally, the show will be introducing a new head writer — Halcyon Person (What a name!). Person is an Emmy, Humanitas, and NAACP Award-nominated TV maker who has also worked as a writer, director, and producer for everything from preschool content to late-night shows. Her credits include being the Head Writer and Co-Executive Producer of Karma’s World (2021) and Dee & Friends in Oz (2024) on Netflix.

Frankie Muniz announced on social media that he’s officially wrapped filming the Malcolm in the Middle revival for Disney+. He said the experience reminded him how much he loves acting, so much so that he’s eager to dive into more projects.

Just wrapped filming the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, and man, I’m still reeling,” Muniz said. “This experience was straight-up incredible—like stepping back into Malcolm’s wild world but with all the love and chaos cranked to 11. Reuniting with the cast, getting to know some new characters, laughing till it hurt, and making new memories on set felt like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from. It went by so fast, like a blur of perfect moments. I wish it could go on forever.

Muniz continued, “I’m so happy to have gotten the chance to relive being on this show with a greater appreciation of what we were making knowing how many people around the world truly love Malcolm and his family. Another big thing I am taking away from this experience is how much I truly love being an actor. I never officially felt like that label fit me, but now I wear that label proudly and hope to do so much more of it in the future. I am so sad to have to say goodbye to my MITM crew, I love each and everyone of you.

The actor added that he has “so many incredible pictures of all the cast” that he wanted to post, but Disney wouldn’t let him, “So imagine a picture of all us together, having the time of our lives!

The revival series, which will consist of just four episodes, will follow Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter as they are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party. Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer returned to write the revival, with producing director Ken Kwapis set to helm all four episodes.

Original cast members Christopher Materson and Justin Berfield returned as Malcolm’s brothers, Francis and Reese, respectively. As Erik Per Sullivan has left the world of acting behind, he didn’t come back to play Dewey. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark replaced him. Anthony Timpano plays Jamie, the youngest brother seen as a baby and toddler during the latter portion of the original series. Vaughan Murrae plays Kelly, the baby Lois was pregnant with during the series finale. She is described as “self-sufficient” and “already wiser than most of the family.

Additionally, Kiana Maderia plays Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend, and Keeley Karsten plays Leah, Malcolm’s daughter. Leah will have “the same sarcastic humor, same impulsiveness and the same frighteningly high intelligence” as her father, but is “far more sensitive and emotional.

Everything will come up Milhouse when the character’s new voice actor comes to The Simpsons with the show’s Season 36 finale https://www.joblo.com/milhoue-the-simpsons-kelly-macleod/ https://www.joblo.com/milhoue-the-simpsons-kelly-macleod/#respond Fri, 16 May 2025 16:44:27 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=841336 Kelly Macleod takes over the voice of Milhouse this Sunday in the wake of Pamela Hayden's retirement from The Simpsons.

The post Everything will come up Milhouse when the character’s new voice actor comes to The Simpsons with the show’s Season 36 finale appeared first on JoBlo.

“So, this is what it feels like when doves cry,” said Milhouse Van Houten in the “Lemon of Troy” episode for The Simpsons Season 6, and now, scores of fans are shedding a tear for the end of an era. Pamela Hayden, who voiced the beloved blue-haired tragedy on two legs, Milhouse Van Houten, is retiring, and singer Kelly Macleod is stepping up to play Bart’s best friend and endearing victim of divorce, Milhouse. According to Entertainment Weekly, Macleod debuts as the character on Sunday’s season 36 finale “Estranger Things.”

The upcoming episode finds Marge concerned about a possible wedge between Bart and Lisa when the sibling duo stops watching a violent cartoon they love. Here’s the official description for “Estranger Things”: “When Bart & Lisa stop watching Itchy & Scratchy together, Marge fears that they’ll start to drift apart… but she has no idea how bad things are about to get!”

Interestingly, Macleod’s debut is as brief as it comes, with Milhouse only having one line of dialogue in the upcoming episode. The scene in question features Bart, Lisa, and Milhouse as adults, so it’s understandable why the character could sound different. I’ve not seen the episode, and I wonder if Milhouse still carries a torch for Lisa in their adult years. Are they a couple in the scene or simply friends?

“Estranger Things” isn’t Kelly Macleod’s first Simpsons episode. She previously appeared in the season 33 episode “Bart the Cool Kid.” In that episode, which also featured The Weeknd and Michael Rappaport, she performed the song “Two Badges, One Mind.”

“It’s been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse (and Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Janey, Malibu Stacy, and many others),” Hayden said about her Simpsons experience.

“Here’s to everyone who made this terrific ride I’ve been on possible,” Hayden’s message continued. “P.S. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses.”

Will you miss Milhouse’s original voice? Do you think Kelly Macleod can do Milhouse justice? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

The Simpsons episode “Estranger Things” airs on Sunday, May 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

Shrinking: Michael J. The post Shrinking: Michael J. Fox joins season 3 of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series appeared first on JoBlo.

According to Deadline, Michael J. Fox is set to return to television with a major guest-starring role in the upcoming third season of Shrinking. The appearance marks something of a reunion, as the comedy-drama was co-created by Bill Lawrence — who also co-created Spin City, the series that Fox led for four seasons before stepping away due to his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

The acclaimed comedy/drama follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel), who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives, including his own. Harrison Ford stars alongside Jason Segel as Dr. Paul Rhoades, one of Jimmy’s colleagues at the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Center.

It’s unknown who Fox might be playing, but Deadline wonders if it will be connected to Ford’s character, who is revealed to have Parkinson’s disease. This will mark Fox’s first significant acting role since reprising his Good Wife character, Louis Canning, on several episodes of The Good Fight in 2020.

Another new addition to the third season is Jeff Daniels, who will play Jimmy’s father in a guest arc. In addition to Segel and Ford, the main cast of Shrinking includes Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.

Our own Alex Maidy is a big fan of Shrinking. “Emotions and mental health are not always easy topics to handle, and while Ted Lasso found a unique way to deliver positivity through the lens of sports and team camaraderie, Shrinking is a more direct look at the licensed mental health experts in our lives and how their own personal networks of friends and family can help them cope with their own ups and downs,” Maidy wrote. “Shrinking is once again one of the year’s best shows, thanks to Jason Segel and Harrison Ford fronting an ensemble that does not have a single weak spot. It is impossible not to like this show or these characters because they reflect our real lives, albeit much funnier.” You can check out the rest of his review of the second season right here.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer legacy sequel series is coming together a lot faster than expected. Indeed, Deadline is reporting that Ryan Kierra Armstrong has landed the coveted role of the new Slayer opposite returning star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The fifteen-year-old Armstrong, despite her young age, is already a Hollywood vet, having played the title role in the Stephen King adaptation, Firestarter, in addition to one of the leads in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on Disney+.

To note, Armstrong is much younger than Gellar was when she started playing the role back in 1997, which makes me think this reboot is going for a somewhat more realistic depiction of teenage life. Back in the nineties, it was commonplace for adult actors to play teen roles, with the practice still in effect in shows like Euphoria. However, other shows like Stranger Things started the practice of casting age-appropriate actors, to great effect, and that is the road this sequel series is going down as well.

Gellar posted a video on Instagram of her breaking the news of her hiring to Armstrong. Check it out

The new series is set for Hulu, with Chloe Zhao signed to direct the pilot, which Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, the showrunners of Poker Face, will write. To note, they once worked with original Buffy showrunner Josh Whedon on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but he’s not expected to have any involvement with the sequel series.

Regarding Armstrong’s casting, Gellar wrote the following on social media: “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room. Welcome to #NewSunnydale #btvs”

There is no news yet on when the show might debut, but it certainly has the potential to be a major, generation-spanning breakout hit. Here’s hoping David Boreanaz makes an appearance as Angel!

Trekkies and Trekkers (I know there’s a difference) rejoice! After a nearly two-year wait, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is finally returning for a third season. The series is set to return on Paramount Plus with a two-episode premiere on July 17th. New episodes will drop weekly leading up to a September 11th season finale. Season four has already been greenlit and is in production, so hopefully the wait won’t be as long as it was last time.

In the third season of Strange New Worlds, “we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike, they face the conclusion of season two’s harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, season three takes characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek.”

Strange New Worlds seems to be the most well-liked of all Paramount’s new Star Trek Universe series, with many praising the performance of star Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike. He’s one of the franchise’s most tragic heroes, with him destined for a grim fate, which was memorably revealed in the classic TOS (The Original Series) two-part episode, The Menagerie. Yet, far from being gloomy or downbeat, this relentlessly sunny, optimistic show has proven to strike a chord, with them even doing fanciful things like having musical episodes. The series co-stars Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck (as Spock), Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun and Martin Quinn, and guest stars this season include Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian O’Sullivan, Melanie Scrofano and Carol Kane, plus Paul Wesley as a young Captain Kirk.

Hulu ordered a revival of King of the Hill over two years ago, and the first official look at the new animated series has arrived in the form of a brand-new poster. You can check that out below.

King of the Hill revival poster

Most animated shows keep their characters at the same age forever, but the revival of King of the Hill will find the series leaping forward in time. As you can see, the gang are looking a little older (with Boomhauer somehow looking like he’s aged the most) and good ol’ Hank Hill is just as exasperated by modern technology as you would expect. Bill is receiving a food delivery by Mega Lo Eats, Dale is wearing a VR headset and vaping, and Boomhauer is immersed in his tablet. In the background, a drone is delivering a case of Alamo beer.

Mike Judge is back to voice Hank and Boomhauer, alongside Kathy Najimy as Peggy, Pamela Adlon as Bobby, Stephen Root as Bill, Ashley Gardner as Nancy, and Lauren Tom as Minh and Connie. Judge will also executive produce alongside Greg Daniels, with Saladin Patterson serving as showrunner. “We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy and Bobby, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and continue the conversations we began years ago,” said Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney Branded Television streaming originals. “This show has all of the perfect ingredients to meet this moment in animation at Hulu, and we’re so thankful to be having those conversations alongside this talented group.

Johnny Hardwick, who voices Dale Gribble, sadly died in 2023, but he had apparently completed work on “a couple” of the new episodes. It’s not certain what will happen to the character; They may retire him or perhaps someone else has taken over the voice. 20th Television Animation and Hulu issued the following joint statement: “Johnny Hardwick was an incredibly beloved member of the King of the Hill family, whose tremendous talent, brilliant humor and friendship will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to work with him over the past 25 years. Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family as we mourn the loss of one of the animation greats. His voice gave life to one of our most iconic characters, and he will be truly missed.

A sneak peek of the revival will be screened at the ATX TV Festival during a panel with the cast and crew on May 30th. The show doesn’t have an official release date yet, but is expected to debut on Hulu later this year.

Netflix is usually in the headlines for cancelling a bunch of shows, but today, the streaming giant has much better news—it’s dishing out renewals instead. During Netflix’s upfronts presentation, it was announced that Bridgerton has been renewed for seasons 5 and 6; that’s right, gentle reader, it’s a double renewal. It was also revealed that the upcoming fourth season will debut in 2026.

The fourth season of Bridgerton will center on Benedict (Luke Thompson), the bohemian second son of the Bridgerton brood. Unwilling to settle down like his brothers, his perspective changes when he encounters a captivating Lady in Silver (Yerin Ha) at his mother’s masquerade ball.

The Four Seasons, Tina Fey’s adaptation of Alan Alda’s 1981 film of the same name, is also returning for a second season. The first season stars Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, and Marco Calvani as three couples in a long-time friend group that’s upended when one of the couples breaks up.

Forever, the contemporary adaptation of Judy Blume’s classic novel, also received a second season renewal. The series stars Lovie Simone as Keisha and Michael Cooper Jr. as Justin, two Black teens who went to preschool together but haven’t seen each other since — until a New Year’s Eve party reunites them, and sends them into the at-times tumultuous, always sweet whirlwind of first love. Creator Mara Brock Akil said, “This show was never just about first love — it was about being seen, about letting teenagers be soft, complicated, and real. And the world showed up for that. Season 2 is our love letter back to the people who said, ‘Yes, this is for me.’ We’re honored, we’re excited, and we’re ready to go even deeper. Thank you to Netflix — Season 2 is coming soon!

Keri Russell will be back as Kate Wyler for a fourth season of The Diplomat, with the third season set to premiere this fall. The show centers on Wyler, the newly appointed United States ambassador to the United Kingdom, as she helps to defuse an international crisis, forges strategic alliances and adjusts to her new place in the spotlight. She also manages her deteriorating marriage to fellow career diplomat Hal Wyler.

Rounding up the renewals are Survival of the Thickest, which will be back for a third and final season, and My Life with the Walter Boys, which has been renewed for a third season ahead of the second season premiere later this year.

David Zaslav says Max will be reverting back to HBO Max https://www.joblo.com/hbo-max-returns/ https://www.joblo.com/hbo-max-returns/#respond Wed, 14 May 2025 15:20:29 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=840904 Perhaps the first domino to fall, David Zaslav is walking back his decision of changing HBO Max to Max, as it will change back to HBO Max.

The post David Zaslav says Max will be reverting back to HBO Max appeared first on JoBlo.

]]>
HBO followed suit with Netflix as the streaming revolution started escalating by offering HBO GO and HBO NOW, which were options to watch the content that the premium cable channel aired on demand. HBO GO and HBO NOW then started to add more movies and TV shows from the Warner Bros. library to become a Netflix competitor with HBO Max in 2020. After David Zaslav took over as overlord when Warner Bros. and Discovery merged, he would rebrand HBO Max to simply Max in a curious business move in 2023.

The Hollywood Reporter now reveals that David Zaslav has announced that Max will be returning to its original name, HBO Max. Zaslav made the announcement during the company’s upfront presentation in New York at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. Zaslav made a statement that said, “The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming. Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”

The chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, Casey Bloys, added, “With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognized as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for.” As the humorous news was unveiled, the audience responded with laughter, a few applause and “exactly one whistle.” Bloys took the reactions to the absurd situation into account and joked, “I know you’re all shocked, but the good news is: I have a drawer full of stationery from the last time around.”

The company expounded in what can be seen as a shot at Netflix, “This evolution has been influenced by changing consumer needs, and the fact that no consumer today is saying they want more content, but most consumers are saying they want better content. With other services filling the more basic needs with volume, WBD has clearly distinguished itself through its quality and distinct stories, and no brand has done that better and more consistently over 50+ years than HBO.”

The statement continued, “Returning the HBO brand into HBO Max will further drive the service forward and amplify the uniqueness that subscribers can expect from the offering. It is also a testament to WBD’s willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach – leaning heavily on consumer data and insights – to best position itself for success.”

]]>
Well, it’s official. Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica Jones for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. The announcement was made during Disney’s upfront presentation.

Ritter played Jessica Jones in the eponymous Netflix series, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2019. The show followed the ex-superhero turned private investigator as she opened her own detective agency, Alias Investigations. She later joined forces with Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) in The Defenders miniseries.

In addition to Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Daredevil: Born Again has brought many members of the Netflix cast into the fold. Vincent D’Onofrio is back as Wilson Fisk, alongside Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. Now that Ritter is returning, perhaps it’s only a matter of time before the final two Defenders also join the story.

Production on the second season of Daredevil: Born Again is well underway, with the series expected to return in March 2026. There are a few other new additions to the cast, including Matthew Lillard and Lili Taylor. It’s not known who Lillard plays, but Taylor is said to be playing a political opponent to Fisk.

The official synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again reads: “Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

Our own Alex Maidy enjoyed the first season and is quite excited to see where the second season takes our heroes. “Once you have all finished the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, I have no doubt that you will be anxious to see where the story goes next,” Maidy wrote in his review. “A mid-credit scene at the end of the season finale will give you a taste, but I think you will also enjoy it more than I have. Binging the nine episodes did not leave much room to enjoy the week-to-week tension that will build for you as you learn about the twists and turns the story will take, but it may also magnify some of the season’s shortcomings. Whether they be subplots that build up but do not quite pay off or the way the series transitions from the prior seasons to Born Again, there will be some contentious conversations from legacy Daredevil fans and newcomers. Personally, I enjoyed seeing Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio back and as good as they have ever been. Just be prepared that this series does not pull any punches and may have some of the most violent deaths outside of Deadpool & Wolverine. The Man Without Fear is back, and I cannot wait for season two.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

Now that Krysten Ritter is back for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, are you hoping that Luke Cage and Danny Rand aren’t far behind?

Jordan will executive produce Delphi, an upcoming Creed spinoff series which has been ordered at Prime Video.

Get ready to enter the Creed-Verse as Prime Video has ordered Delphi, a Creed spinoff series that will focus on the young boxers at the Delphi gym seen in the Rocky and Creed movies.

The Delphi Boxing Academy, a Los Angeles gym originally founded by Tony ‘Duke’ Evers, served as the longtime training ground for Apollo Creed. Now operated by Duke’s son, Tony ‘Little Duke’ Evers, the gym is also where Apollo’s son, Adonis Johnson Creed—portrayed by Michael B. Jordan in the films—trains.

Jordan will executive produce Delphi through his Outlier Society production banner. He’s been talking about building up the franchise for a few years, with several projects in the mix, including a potential anime series. Marco Ramirez (Daredevil) will serve as the showrunner on Delphi and executive produce alongside Jordan.

The Creed franchise has proven incredibly successful, with all three installments collectively grossing over $660 million at the global box office. After the success of Creed III, it didn’t take long for Creed IV to get rolling. Last year, producer Irwin Winkler said, “We have a really good story [and] a really good plot. We got a little delayed because of the strikes, but about a year from now we’re going into pre-production.” He also confirmed that Jordan would once again direct the movie in addition to starring. “He did such a great job — he was comfortable with the camera,” Winkler said.

Jordan hasn’t offered any details on Creed IV, but he has said that he would like to work with Jonathan Majors again. Majors played Damian Anderson in Creed III, a childhood friend of Creed’s who blamed him for an incident which resulted in a lengthy prison sentence. As we know, the rise of Majors came crashing down when he was found guilty of assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend. Marvel quickly fired him, and he became persona non grata in Hollywood. However, he has been on a comeback tour thanks to the release of Magazine Dreams, so perhaps he will be welcomed back to the Creed-Verse by the time the fourth installment of the franchise gets rolling.

Fallout has received an early season 3 renewal https://www.joblo.com/fallout-season-3-renewal/ https://www.joblo.com/fallout-season-3-renewal/#respond Mon, 12 May 2025 23:30:28 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=840625 It's time to get back to the post-apocalyptic wasteland as Prime Video has renewed Fallout for season 3 ahead of December season 2 premiere.

The post Fallout has received an early season 3 renewal appeared first on JoBlo.

We’re still many months away from the season 2 premiere of Fallout, but Prime Video has already renewed the highly successful post-apocalyptic series for season 3.

We are absolutely thrilled that our global Prime Video customers will be able to delve deeper into the wonderfully surreal and captivating world of Fallout,” said Vernon Sanders, global head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Jonah [Nolan], Lisa [Joy], Geneva [Robertson-Dworet], and Graham [Wagner] have done an exceptional job bringing this beloved video game franchise to vivid life on Prime Video. Together with our amazing partners at Bethesda Games and Bethesda Softworks, we are delighted to announce a third season of Fallout, well ahead of the much-anticipated debut of Season Two.

The second season of Fallout will debut in December 2025. It will “pick up in the aftermath of Season 1’s epic finale, taking viewers on a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.” The first season has assembled 100 million viewers worldwide, which makes it one of the streaming service’s top three most-watched titles ever.

The holidays came a little early this year – we are thrilled to be ending the world all over again for a third season of Fallout,” said executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. “On behalf of our brilliant cast and crew, our showrunners Geneva and Graham, and our partners at Bethesda, we’re grateful to our incredible collaborators at Amazon MGM Studios and to the amazing fans as we continue our adventures in the wasteland together.

Series creators Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner added, “We’re so grateful to have survived the apocalypse for another season! Thanks to the incredible team — our whole cast and crew, Kilter, and Amazon.

Based on the video game series from Bethesda Game Studios, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them. The series stars Ella Purnell as Lucy, an optimistic Vault-dweller; Aaron Moten as Maximus, a young soldier looking to advance in the Brotherhood of Steel; and Walton Goggins as Cooper Howard, a legendary Ghoul who still retains some of the person he used to be.

Spider-Noir: First official look at Nicolas Cage suited up for Spider-Man series https://www.joblo.com/spider-noir-first-look-nicolas-cage/ https://www.joblo.com/spider-noir-first-look-nicolas-cage/#respond Mon, 12 May 2025 22:28:58 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=840614 Nicolas Cage suits up in first official look at Spider-Noir, the upcoming Spider-Man series coming to Amazon and MGM+.

]]>
At long last, the first official look at Nicolas Cage suited up as Spider-Noir has been revealed, and it’s pretty much perfect. Check it out below!

Spider-Noir first look

Cage stars in Spider-Noir as an “aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” Cage first voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The series also features Brendan Gleeson as the main villain, a mob boss, Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Abraham Popoola as a World War I veteran, Jack Huston as a bodyguard, and Li Jun Li as a singer at a premier New York nightclub.

Lukas Haas, who plays a subordinate of Gleeson’s character, has previously teased that the series could be released in black-and-white. “We filmed it in — I think it may come out in both black and white and color, but when we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling and it looked very, very authentic,” Haas said. “To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black and white film. But obviously, just the writing, and Nic is incredible. It’s just a really fun project and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.

During Amazon’s Upfront presentation, it was confirmed that the series will be released in both black-and-white and colour.

Spider-Noir comes to us from Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher), who serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Harry Bradbeer (Killing Eve) will direct and executive produce the first two episodes. Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series alongside Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, the team behind the Spider-Verse movies. Lord, Miller, and Pascal will also serve as executive producers on Spider-Noir.

The series will debut in 2026.

Abracadabra! Jude Law and Andrew Garfield are set to star as iconic Las Vegas magicians Siegfried & Roy in Wild Things, a new limited series for Apple TV+.

The eight-part series is based on the Apple original podcast Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy. John Hoffman, co-creator of Only Murders in the Building, will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Law will play Siegfried Fischbacher, with Garfield set to play Roy Uwe Horn. Production will kick off later this fall.

According to a synopsis from the producers, the series will be a “wild ride relationship tale of two of the greatest showman-magicians in history who, along with their white tigers, are tasked with turning Sin City into a family-friendly destination. The duo push the concept of illusion versus reality to the extreme, personally and professionally, until tragedy reframes and opens a mystery surrounding their last fateful Las Vegas show.

The German magicians became famous for their animal-based magic show, which involved their cherished white lions and tigers. They became the highest-paid entertainers in Las Vegas, but it all came to an end when Roy was attacked by a 400-pound white tiger named Mantacore in 2003. He barely survived the ordeal and was left partially paralyzed. The pair officially retired in 2010. Roy died in 2020 at the age of 75, and Siegfried died in 2021 at the age of 82.

A Siegfried & Roy biopic was in the works close to a decade ago, with Philipp Stolzl (The Physician) set to direct. Michael Herbig (A Thousand Lines) later took over the project, but it never got off the ground.

Jude Law will next be seen in Eden, a survival thriller directed by Ron Howard. The film is based on an unsolved mystery that unfolded on a remote island in the Galapagos and charts the lengths humans will go in pursuit of happiness. It will be released on August 22nd. As for Andrew Garfield, his next project is Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt, a thriller which stars Julia Roberts as a college professor who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light. It’s set for an October 10th release.

Parkour! Who’s ready to clock back in for a follow-up to The Office? The upcoming series from former Office showrunners Greg Daniels and Michael Koman premieres this September. Titled The Paper, the new mockumentary comedy series follows the publisher (Domhnall Gleeson) and staff of a historic but struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. Peacock released a first look image from the upcoming comedy on Monday, featuring Domhnall Gleeson going full “Oh, Captain! My Captain!”. In contrast, Oscar Nuñez, who will reprise his Office role as Oscar Martinez, looks on in confusion.

“Greg heard me and moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times the population of Scranton,” Nuñez said about his hopes of moving Oscar to a “more cosmopolitan environment” on stage Monday at NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation. “So it’s nice to be heard.”

The Paper, The Office, Domhnall Gleeson

“It’s about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that’s much reduced from its glory days,” Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter. “A lot of the story lines are about how this guy, Domhnall Gleeson’s character, is trying to restore this paper, and he just doesn’t have the budget for hiring reporters, and he has to use all the staff that work there on a volunteer basis to be reporters. They’re completely untrained and don’t know what they’re doing,” Daniels said. “It’s a fruitful premise. There’s a tremendous history for local papers. The villain here is the internet and the ability to look at everybody’s news for free, and all the ad revenue going to Google.”

A remarkable aspect of the show’s production is that it employs many crew members who worked behind the scenes on The Office. Their seasoned experience with Daniels and Koman’s comedic sensibilities and run of the show could help the follow-up reach a similar audience and new heights. Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key join Gleeson and Nuñez to round out the primary cast. Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts will have guest roles.

Are you a fan of The Office? Are you interested in how The Paper differs from Daniels and Koman’s previous hit series? Let us know in the comments section below.

Mark L. Smith is a master at showing unforgiving environments in nature with The Revenant and his latest series, American Primeval. Netflix now gives us a preview at Untamed, which will be a different take on Yosemite National Park. The new mystery-thriller limited series Untamed starring Eric Bana, Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago and Wilson Bethel will premiere on Thursday, July 17th on Netflix.

Untamed will consist of six one-hour episodes. The official synopsis reads,
“A character-driven mystery-thriller that follows Kyle Turner (played by Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Turner on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.”

The cast and character descriptions read,
Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast territories.

Sam Neill as Paul Souter. Souter has been the chief park ranger in Yosemite for half his life. He’s a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to Turner. He’s comfortable in all facets of his job, whether it’s dealing with crime inside the park or with the bureaucracy around it.

Lily Santiago as Naya Vasquez. An ambitious young, former Los Angeles cop, Vasquez is the newest addition to Yosemite’s ranger squad. She came to the park to find a new life with her 4-year-old son, Gael. Despite being a little green when it comes to a landscape like Yosemite, her strong will, astute investigative skills, and big-city homicide techniques become useful tools in a murder that is distinctly human.

Rosemary DeWitt as Jill Bodwin. Jill is Turner’s ex-wife, a former teacher and park counselor, who remarried a few years after their divorce. Despite the fracturing of their marriage, Jill and Turner maintain a strong bond, held together by events from their past.

Wilson Bethel as Shane Maguire. A former army ranger, Maguire now uses his skills as the park’s Wildlife Management Officer. Maguire’s a loner, preferring to live by himself in the wilderness where it’s easier to follow his own rules.

Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith are the showrunners on the series. They will also executive produce with the show’s star, Eric Bana, along with John Wells and Erin Jontow via John Wells Productions; Todd Black and Tony Shaw for Escape Artists Entertainment, Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder Productions; Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment.

Mark L. Smith tells Netflix, “Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that.” Meanwhile, Elle states, “We get to understand what this job is, and see the beauty of the park, but also the dangers.”

Madonna to go over the borderline with director Shawn Levy for a limited series about her life at Netflix https://www.joblo.com/madonna-biopic-shawn-levy/ https://www.joblo.com/madonna-biopic-shawn-levy/#respond Mon, 12 May 2025 17:23:40 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=840535 Madonna, the Queen of Reinvention, is teaming up with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for a limited series on Netflix.

The Queen of Pop, Madonna, is ready to vogue for Shawn Levy‘s (Deadpool & Wolverine, The Adam Project, Free Guy) camera for a limited series about her life and music on Netflix! According to Deadline, the in-demand director is teaming up with Madge to bring her storied life to the small screen. The duo’s limited series project is unrelated to the Madonna feature biopic, previously developed at Universal, with Julia Garner lined up to play the Queen of Reinvention.

Madonna and Shawn Levy’s biographical limited series is in early development. There’s no word on which decades of Madonna’s journey the presentation will focus on. However, Garner and The Material Girl are close, and the Ozark and Fantastic Four: First Steps actress could play the icon in Levy’s limited series. Deadline says Garner’s involvement comes down to availability, though it’s never as simple as that. However, given Madonna and Garner’s close relationship, the three-time Emmy winner could prioritize the Madonna biopic. While Madonna did co-write the would-be feature focusing on her life, there’s no word on whether she’ll pick up the pen for Levy’s limited series.

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in 2020 regarding the feature-length project.

Madonna’s impact on the entertainment industry is almost impossible to describe. Her influence flows through generations, with artists like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Dua Lipa citing Mo as inspiration for exploring the pop stratosphere. In her heyday, Madonna redefined what it meant to be a woman in the music industry. Her sex-positive messaging, provocative music videos (“Human Nature,” anyone), and take-no-shit attitude broke the mold, making men uncomfortable, women feel empowered, and music executives count their cash. Hailed by her fans as the Queen of Reinvention, Madonna has taken on several personas throughout her storied career. Mothers used to warn their daughters about Madonna’s scandalous behavior while secretly wanting to be her. Celebrated for her musical prowess, raw sexual energy, and ability to adapt to the times, Madonna is a legend through and through.

Court is no longer in session as Night Court, Suits LA, The Irrational, & more get cancelled by NBC https://www.joblo.com/night-court-cancelled/ https://www.joblo.com/night-court-cancelled/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 20:25:18 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=840272 It's an NBC bloodbath! The network has cancelled multiple shows, including Night Court, Suits LA, The Irrational, and more.

The post Court is no longer in session as Night Court, Suits LA, The Irrational, & more get cancelled by NBC appeared first on JoBlo.

After sentencing several TV series to cancellation, NBC is bringing the gavel down on them. The Night Court reboot, starring Melissa Rauch, is the first series to get cancelled. The courtroom comedy lasted three seasons, with Lacretta and John Larroquette co-starring in the shenanigans. After a strong start, the show’s year-to-year numbers steadily declined. Nostalgia is a powerful tool in Hollywood, but with so much competition, it shows that springboards from fond memories eventually fade.

According to Deadline, there was an effort to bring the show back for a fourth and final season with a shorter episode count, but it didn’t happen. It’s still possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the show somewhere else.

The series revolved around “unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone (Rauch), the daughter of the late Harry Stone, who follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (Larroquette).” Case dismissed, folks.

Next up on the chopping block is Suits LA, which aired for just a single season. The spinoff series comes from Suits creator Aaron Korsh and stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, “a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.” Not even appearances from a few OG cast members, such as Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman, could bump up the numbers.

The Irrational also got the axe after two seasons. The crime drama series stars Jesse L. Martin as Alex Mercer, a world-renowned professor of behavioural science, as he “lends his unique expertise on an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations. His insight and unconventional approach to understanding human behaviour lead him and the team on a series of intense, unexpected journeys to solve illogical puzzles and perplexing mysteries.

NBC also cancelled Lopez vs. Lopez, the working-class family comedy starring real-life father-and-daughter duo George Lopez and Mayan Lopez. The show lasted three seasons. They also shelved Found after two seasons. The drama stars Shanola Hampton as Gabrielle “Gabi” Mosely, a public relations specialist and crisis manager, who works alongside her associates to find missing people the system has overlooked.

Ted: The Animated Series to bring the foul-mouthed teddy bear to Peacock with Wahlberg and Seyfried returning https://www.joblo.com/ted-the-animated-series-peacock/ https://www.joblo.com/ted-the-animated-series-peacock/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 17:51:59 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=840233 Seth MacFarlane's Ted is getting his own animated series on Peacock, with Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried reprising their roles.

While Sleep Token fans are obsessed with Jerry, the Flamingo, leading up to the band’s new album, “Even in Arcadia,” Peacock is losing its stuffing for a teddy bear named Ted. Why the Sleep Token reference? What can I say? It’s timely, and I’m obsessed. Seth MacFarlane’s mega-popular Ted franchise is already dominating the live-action space with two films and a hit television series, but now it’s looking to conquer the animation arena. Peacock announced Ted: The Animated Series today, bringing the foul-mouthed teddy bear to screens like never before.

Seth MacFarlane will reprise his role as the voice of Ted for the animated series. In addition to playing Snuggle’s evil twin (not really), MacFarlane is producing all episodes with executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh (Modern Family), who also executive produced the live-action series Ted.

Ted: The Animated Series gets the band back together with Mark Wahlberg as John, Amanda Seyfried as Sam, and Jessica Barth as Tami-Lynn. Saturday Night Live’s Kyle Mooney joins the cast as the voice of Apollo while Liz Richman plays Ruth.

Ted: The Animated Series follows the success of the live-action TV series, which was recently renewed for a second season. The show launched to banger ratings in January 2024, remaining at the top of the U.S. charts for two months after its debut. Peacock said in June that it’s the platform’s most-watched series in the United States, and its popularity extends to other territories like the U.K., Australia, and Canada.

Here’s the official synopsis for the Ted TV series courtesy of Peacock:

In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach), and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

Are you excited about Ted getting his own animated series? Let us know in the comments section below.

Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green will star alongside Donnie Wahlberg in Boston Blue, CBS’ upcoming spinoff of the long-running Blue Bloods series.

The series is set to debut this fall and will follow Detective Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he leaves New York City and his family to take a position with the Boston Police Department. He will be partnered with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

I’m gonna have to get a really good Boston accent, just so I can throw it out at times,” Martin-Green told reporters at a CBS press event. “We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long. Being Detective Lena Silver, who is coming from a prominent law enforcement family, you will love the Silvers too. I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in the CBS family.

Wahlberg added, “I’m incredibly grateful for the years on Blue Bloods, and incredibly grateful to be able to keep the the traditional Blue Bloods alive and move it forward into a new worth with new friends and new situations. We are really really working on this universe in a way that I think the Blue Bloods viewers are gonna be very happy, very excited, and a whole new world of viewers are gonna be able to discover us, too.

Blue Bloods fans can probably expect some familiar faces to show up, as Wahlberg said, “There’ll be connective tissue to the old family. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories and still telling the Reagan stories.

The original series was one of CBS’s most-watched dramas, and many cast members didn’t want it to end. Tom Selleck, who starred in Blue Bloods as Frank Reagan, the New York Police Department Police Commissioner, said that everyone involved wanted to return for more. “I can’t figure out why they didn’t start streaming it, do 10 episodes a year,” he said. “But I’m not the boss. Everybody wanted to come back. And I think with this cast, it would have been a gift for the audience. I don’t make those decisions. I’m prepared to celebrate and commemorate this show, but I’m still getting used to it.” Maybe he’ll make an appearance in Boston Blue.

Another new Yellowstone series is on the way as CBS has officially greenlit Y: Marshals, a spinoff centered on Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). The show has been given a 13-episode order, with production set to kick off this summer for a midseason 2026 launch on Sunday nights. We first heard about the spinoff less than two months ago, and things seem to have moved fast.

The official description reads: “With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.

Taylor Sheridan will executive produce alongside David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari of 101 Studios. Spencer Hudnut will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series.

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach explained why Y: Marshals is being set up at CBS rather than Paramount+, like the other Yellowstone shows. “I think all of our shows right now are both streaming and linear,” Reisenbach said. “That’s what we’re focused on, is trying to make our shows work on both platforms. It certainly did occur to us that the show will do really well on streaming, because all the Taylor shows have. But ‘Yellowstone’ and ‘Tulsa King’ also did really well for us when we aired them on the network. So, in terms of Taylor’s involvement, we’re still early in the process. He’s a very busy guy, but we’ll take what we can get.

Another Yellowstone spinoff series featuring Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly as Rip and Beth was announced last year. Other spinoffs in the works include The Madison, which follows a New York City family who move to the Madison River valley of central Montana. Per Paramount, the series is described as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection.“ The series stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Fox, Patrick J. Adams, and more. There’s also 1944, the third Yellowstone prequel series, which follows 1883 and 1923.

Apple TV+ has renewed Seth Rogen's comedy/drama series The Studio for a second season.

It’s sequel time, baby! Apple TV+ announced today that it has renewed The Studio for a second season. The comedy/drama series stars Seth Rogen as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of a floundering studio who struggles to balance corporate demands with his passion for producing quality films

We’re thrilled to be making a second season of ‘The Studio.’ We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two, then repeating that loop for ten more seasons,” said creators and executive producers Rogen and Evan Goldberg. “And, we’re excited to keep all our industry friends and colleagues guessing as to when one of their personal stories will stream on Apple TV+.

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, added, “Seth, Evan, the entire creative team and cast of ‘The Studio’ have knocked it out of the park with this brilliant show, and it has been incredible to watch the conversation grow with each new episode. We can’t wait to see where Matt Remick takes Continental Studios in season two, and hope for his sake that the ‘Kool-Aid’ movie crushes at the box office.

The official description of The Studio reads: “As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films. With their power suits masking their never-ending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe. As someone who eats, sleeps and breathes movies, it’s the job Matt’s been pursuing his whole life, and it may very well destroy him.

Our own Chris Bumbray caught The Studio when it premiered at SXSW. While he found it funny and appreciated the numerous cameos (which include the one and only Martin Scorsese), it does leave you feeling depressed about the state of Hollywood. “Rogen really does seem to be saying that Hollywood, as it once was, is over and that if good movies do get made anymore, it’s a bit of a miracle,” Bumbray wrote. “Given his place in the industry, he would know. God help us, loyal film fans.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

Danny McBride bids adieu to The Righteous Gemstones after the finale airs on HBO https://www.joblo.com/danny-mcbride-righteous-gemstones-finale/ https://www.joblo.com/danny-mcbride-righteous-gemstones-finale/#respond Tue, 06 May 2025 12:56:48 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=839469 After shows like Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals, McBride closes the book on his latest HBO comedy, which he directed himself.

Praise Teenjus! Danny McBride adds The Righteous Gemstones to his resume of completed shows on HBO after shows like Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals. The Righteous Gemstones is the first of the shows to be solely created by McBride, but it is also the longest-running at 36 episodes (when compared to Eastbound & Down‘s 29 episode run). Chronicling the behind-the-scenes antics of a family of televangelists and the enemies they have amassed over the decades, The Righteous Gemstones spent its first three seasons putting the wealthy clan in the crosshairs for blackmail, extortion, and various other crimes.

Variety reports on McBride reflecting on the end of the show as the comedic actor closed the doors himself by directing the final episode. McBride explained that the feeling of the conclusion on the show never truly hit him when making the episode since he was trying to get through production. He stated, “Church lunch scenes are always my favorite scenes to shoot. We usually have a whole day to do it, and it’s everyone from the cast there and everyone has fun.” Then, he says that it took a conversation with his co-star, Gregory Alan Williams, to finally wash the feeling over him. “I was so obsessed with just getting it over the finish line that I didn’t really take pause to think about the weight of like, ‘Oh, we’re finished. We’ve done it.’ As soon as we started talking, I was like, ‘F*ck, I’m about to start crying. Is this going to be sad?’”

As over the top as past season endings on the show have gone, McBride and company opted to subvert expectations and go stripped-down for the ending of the series. He expounds that he always thought of bringing everything back to the family itself to face a challenge on their own, “I always had the idea that in the end, they would be tested to see if they ultimately have what it would take to do this job, without monster trucks or jet packs or anything.” Then, he continued to say, “I always imagined that the culmination at the end would be stripped down, simple, back to basics, just praying.”

The Usual Suspects and Grumpy Old Men actor Kevin Pollak is heading to Tulsa, and he’s not looking to make friends. According to Variety, Kevin Pollak will join the Tulsa King Season 3 cast as Special Agent Musso, “an FBI agent with an axe to grind.”

The second season of Tulsa King ended on November 17, 2024, with some big plot threads wrapped up and other cliffhangers dangling. In the finale, Dwight had a final showdown with nemesis Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough), but let his adversary live. After Cal attempted to destroy Dwight by fixing his trial or attacking his wind farm, it was an intriguing development for the mobster to let his foe remain alive. It was also a wise decision, as the death of a prominent businessman would not have been easy to hide. Meanwhile, Dwight makes an unexpected friend out of Bill Bevilacqua (Frank Grillo), another enemy he must face. To Dwight’s benefit, Bill kills Dwight’s boss, Chickie Invernizzi. It was a shocking twist, but it set up some more great interaction between Dwight and Bill in the third season.

In Tulsa King Season 3, Sylvester Stallone returns as Dwight Manfredi alongside his co-stars Martin Starr, Jay Will, Annabella Sciorra, Neal McDonough, Robert Patrick, Beau Knapp, Bella Heathcote, Chris Caldovino, McKenna Quigley Harrington, Mike “Cash Flo” Walden, Vincent Piazza, Frank Grillo, Michael Beach, James Russo, with Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany.

“I’ve been an admirer of Sly’s throughout his entire career and could not be more excited to be a part of this stellar cast and extraordinary production,” said Kevin Pollak about joining the Tulsa King Season 3 cast.

Kevin Pollak is an acclaimed actor and stand-up comedian. Many remember him as Hockney for Bryan Singer’s crime classic The Usual Suspects. In contrast, others recall his role as Jacob Goldman, the son of Walter Matthau’s Max Goldman in the Odd Couple comedy films Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. Pollak recently completed work on A Tree Fell in the Woods, a dramatic comedy about four adults navigating deception and desire when a fallen tree on New Year’s Eve triggers a chain of events that challenge their relationships and the lies they tell themselves and each other.

Will Kevin Pollak make a good addition to the Tulsa King Season 3 cast? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Queen Latifah crime drama The Equalizer canceled after 5 seasons https://www.joblo.com/the-equalizer-canceled/ https://www.joblo.com/the-equalizer-canceled/#respond Sat, 03 May 2025 13:20:28 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=839180 CBS crime drama The Equalizer, which starred Queen Latifah in the title role, will conclude after the season five finale.

The post Queen Latifah crime drama The Equalizer canceled after 5 seasons appeared first on JoBlo.

]]>
The Equalizer, the CBS crime series which stars Queen Latifah, has been canceled after five seasons. The fifth — and now final season — set to conclude on Sunday.

While the news may seem abrupt and won’t allow The Equalizer to go out in a way that will completely satisfy fans, Deadline reports that the showrunners purposely designed the fifth season finale to be able to play as a series send-off. Obviously that points to them being well aware that The Equalizer could have been headed towards the chopping block.

Queen Latifah reacted to the news of The Equalizer’s cancellation by taking to Instagram, writing, “Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be. Shakim [Compere] and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life-and then we just hope you love them as much as we do. The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal. Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, and producers and writers! And I can’t say enough about the FANS! Y’all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die-and that’s exactly why we keep doing this. We can’t thank you enough. It means the world to us.And don’t worry-I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon. Can’t wait to share it with you.”

One key factor for the cancellation came down to money, with Deadline also reporting that episode budgets, along with Queen Latifah’s salary, were looking to be trimmed. Ratings for The Equalizer had also dipped drastically over the seasons. The series debut had an expectedly big audience with a little over 20 million viewers but by the time it got around to season five last fall, viewership was down to around a quarter of that. Knowing now that the series won’t be returning for a sixth, maybe those who left during its run will show up for one last hour with Robyn McCall.

The supporting cast of The Equalizer also featured Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liz Laura, and Chris Noth.

The Equalizer was actually a reimagined version of the mid-‘80s show of the same name which starred Edward Woodward. That series, too, would be spun into a full-blown trilogy (for now…) starring Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua.
