New trailer released for The Smurfs: The Lost Village animated film

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

THE SMURFS are the inexplicably popular cast of characters known for their blue skin, single identifiable characteristic and name (Brainy Smurf is smart, Papa Smurf is old, Smurfette is the girl), and the fact they say "Smurf" all the mothersm*rfing time!

Anyway, because there is no God, THE SMURFS are now getting a new film. Their new adventure, with the subtitle THE LOST VILLAGE, will now be completely animated (instead of a live-action/animation hybrid) and is apparently a reboot from the 2011 and 2013 films starring Neil Patrick Harris, and the late Jonathan Winters and Anton Yelchin. Originating in 1958 from Belgian comic strips, the Smurfs reached their height of popularity in 1989 with the Saturday Morning cartoon show (which this new film seems to be taking most of its cues).

Anyway, here's a new trailer:

Oof. That…that doesn't look very good. Then again, I never really liked THE SMURFS or the NPH films, so I imagine this might be something only true die-hard fans might enjoy (and if so, good for them!). Hell, I will even concede a part of me is a bit intrigued about the idea of other Smurfs existing and adding to the mythology (though another – larger part – of me couldn't give two shits).

And if for some reason you can't open up YouTube (or are too lazy, or too busy, or would rather gouge your eyes out), here's the offial synopsis:

With the evil wizard Gargamel (Rainn Wilson) hot on their trail, Smurfette (Demi Lovato), Brainy (Danny Pudi), Clumsy (Jack McBrayer) and Hefty (Joe Manganiello) embark on a journey through the Forbidden Forest to find a mysterious village.

That's actually an interesting cast! Especially Danny Pudi as Brainy (being a huge COMMUNITY fan) and Jack McBrayer as Clumsy (being a 30 ROCK and WRECK-IT RALPH fan). Then again, so did the first series of films with Frank Armisen and the aforementioned NPH and Jonathan Winters (and I actually really enjoyed Hank Azaria's take on Gargamel, so sue me), and we saw how that turned out.

So any fans of SMURFS out there? And what do you think of the new film? Sound off below!

SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE will be Smurfing into theaters April 7th, 2017.
